I’m writing today as a concerned bride who’s worried about the safety of her dress. Here’s a little background history. My wedding was originally scheduled for March, so I had done my first fitting in late November, and my dress was full of pins and living in the seamstress; studio for awhile. Then we had to postpone the wedding until December, and I called my seamstress to tell her the news. I also told her that my fiance and I had just started a new exercise class (kettlebell- super intense but with major results), so I was losing weight. She said the best thing would be for her to take out all the pins, and re-do the fitting later in the year. In the meantime, she would store the dress at her studio. Perfect, right?
Except that last night, I had the most awful nightmare about horrible things happening to my dress. It started off with the seamstress letting just one person try on my gown, and ended with me showing up to my fitting to find a torn, stained, ratty dress. I would hope that nothing would happen to my dress while it was in her care, but I’ seriously tempted to take it home until the fitting.
What do you think? Am I just a nervous bride who’s overreacting, or should I take y beautiful dress home where I know it’ll be safe and sound?

Overreacting-seamstresses make their living by caring and altering dress if you selected and experienced and reputable seamstress your dress is safer with her than at your home because she has the knowlege on how to properly hang and store your gown so it is not damaged. If your seamstress is inexperienced or you have doubts about her than maybe you should worry

It’s just a dream. I wouldn’t look too far into it. With that said, I wouldn’t want someone else to store my dress for such a long period of time. If it were just between normal fittings it wouldn’t be an issue but leaving your dress there for over a year seems like a long time.

Totally overreacting. I had the same dreams – bridal salon burned down, it was stolen, etc. Absolutely nothing happened.

It’s just a bad wedding dream. I think we’ve all had them, but they rarely come true :). The seamstress would never let anyone try on your dress, she would have no reason to. It’s not like it will be hanging in her window or anything :).

I wouldn’t worry about it. When I was at a shop trying on dresses and debating between getting white or off-white, they told me they had someone’s dress there that was from the same designer in white (the samples were all off-white) that they could show me. It was in plastic and the girl would only unzip it like 1 inch (there was a glare on the plastic) and I absolutely could not touch it or anything. Like others have said, it’s their livlihood, and they get how precious the dresses are to their clients. I don’t think anyone would jeopardize that. =)
