The difference between a natural diamond versus a high-quality, “man-made” simulated diamond? I was thinking about this the other day, since a lot of people are going this route with moissanite, diamonique, etc stones. I think it’s a great way to save $$$ given how inflated prices are currently, when I think about how much my Fiance spent on a natural stone it seems silly! Obviously natural diamonds have more flaws, color if its a warmer stone but this typically requires close inspection. I have seen some pretty convincing simulated diamonds, some better than others. So what do you think, at a glance, could you tell the difference?

Lab created diamonds have the exact carbon crystal structure of natural diamonds. They are real diamonds where the environment necessary to create one (time and pressure) has been simulated in a lab setting. You cannot tell that they were lab created by simply looking at it. Often companies will label their diamonds which are a microscopic mark that can only be seen when magnified. Now you have to be careful with the company you actually purchase the stone from, as some are not actually creating diamonds. One company that is legit for creating quality cultured diamonds is Apollo Diamond. There’s also Gemesis labs.
I would have loved to go with a lab created diamond but my Fiance gave me his grandmother’s e-ring 🙂 But I’m also a chemist and find the process absolutely amazing!

btw diamonique and moissanite aren’t real diamonds, just alternatives made from cubic zirconium and silicon carbide
