I’m definitely on the bride’s side with this. Six months is quite a bit of time to plan and save. Sitting on it for five months, and giving the bride one month to find replacements for key people in the bridal party is insane. Also, by letting five months go by with no movement on securing your attire or travel plans, it really seems like you weren’t planning on going anyway. Extenuating circumstances or not, if you really wanted to go you could have asked the bride for a little assistance. Asking for monetary help is far less insulting to a bride than the gesture of dropping out of her bridal party and not attending at all.

When my best friend asked me to be in her wedding I was unemployed and things were tight for me financially as well, however I did what I needed to do in order to save up enough money to pay for everything I had to. Why did I plan ahead and try so hard to make it work? Because I valued her, and realized what a big deal it was to her (and me) to be there for her on arguably the most important day of her life. This is harsh, but I feel the bride is doing herself a favor by cutting out people who aren’t there for her when she really needs them. Sorry!
