Dixie Chicks are awesome, and the band formed by two of the Dixie Chicks – Court Yard Hounds is good too! The Dixie Chicks have so many good songs, it is hard to narrow down! But Lullaby is a slow song that is pretty good, although written about a mother’s love for her child it could work for romantic love too.

I love love love Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen. To me those guys are “real country”, and the crap you hear on pop country stations is just that. Also  Slaid Cleaves, Son Volt, Johnny Cash. If you get on their spotify stations and listen to the top 10-15 songs, I bet you’d find some you like!

I say play  what YOU like.  I love Tim McGraw, Dirks Bently, Luke Bryan, Brad Paisley etc. I would play their songs if it were me.  When your Future Brother-In-Law has his engagement party he can play what he wants. This is about you and your Fiance.

Brickette:  Your Future Brother-In-Law is right, most of today’s country is not “real” country, however that is how the world changes. I agree to play what you like but if you think other people attending the party would like to hear something different then I would go with pretty much anything by the ones that both

Jacqui90:  No true, southern, country loving, American, will listen to the Dixie Chicks! So that probably won’t please her Texan Brother-In-Law.

You’re Future Brother-In-Law is referring to whole other genre of country us Texan’s listen to called “Texas Country.” You can live stream 95.9 The Ranch to get a feel of Texas Country. I would recommend Josh Abbott Band. Our entire wedding ceremony was Texas Country and we used JAB a lot. Listen specifically to Oh Tonight and Taste. I walked down the aisle to She’s Like Texas, but that song doesn’t really work if you’re not Texan. Other suggestions are Randy Rogers Band, Wade Bowen, Zane Williams, Aaron Watson, Casey Donahew Band, Eli Young Band…if you go to 95.9 The Ranch’s website, you will find tons of Texas Country music artist.

MissB2MrsO:  Oh man, I didn’t even think about 95.9. My Fiance is from Texas so I have been schooled on country music over the years as well. I also love how it is just like it’s own little country in and of itself.

catchyscreenname:  I know! People here call the popular country “Nashville country” and that’s not a compliment lol. But I like a mixture of both!

Brickette:  I wanted to add the song I Just Wanna Love You by Josh Abbott Band is a good upbeat song for an engagment party!
