Mine wasn’t in a courthouse, but we did have a Justice of the Peace.

Look up elopement photography on google. There are a ton of courthouse elopements (especially in NYC) where you can get some good ideas. Some folks were casual, some got gussied up to the nines.

What are you plans? I’d love to hear them!

We are getting married in a courthouse in September.  I am super excited! We went and asked a lot of questions before we made our decision, but it’s going to be beautiful.  Our courthouse is very old, and they are allowing us to get married on the winding staircase surrounded by old brick and granite.  We are still getting dressed up, having flowers, and a professional photographer.  There are great pics online if you look.

We did. I didn’t want to because I didn’t think it would mean as much, but we went for it. & I was pissed when I got there because there were 6 other couple getting married AT THE SAME TIME!! I was so mad, but I let it go because there is nothing I could do. But after we were saying our vows I forgot everyone was there. It was just me & him, we had a photographer with us, everything was perfect. I bought a simple dress from Macys & he wore dress pants & button up shirt. After the ceremony we went outside to take pics, it had just stopped raining. Everything was beautiful. I’m so glad we went to the courthouse. But I still get upset that we couldnt have a real wedding…maybe one day we can.

We went to SF City Hall – it was stunning! We rented a balcony for an hour, which is better than the wham-bam 5-min ceremony. It’s up to you if you want it to be really casual, or if you still want to make a big wedding out of it. We did a bit of both – here are pics!

I’d get a good photographer and go to a fancy meal afterwards.  A lovely city hall would also be special (like the San Fran).  W

ork in little elements that are meaningful.  I’m going to attempt to fine peonies since they are from my homestate (Indiana state flower).

Here is a courthouse wedding that looks oh so romantic.  Good photography goes a long way.

Thos pics linked above are from my courthouse “wedding”.

Almost 6 months later and we are still thankful every day that we did it that way! Especially as we came up on our “would be” wedding date and realized everything else that was going on this summer too πŸ˜‰

A few ways we still made it special:

  • We had a professional photographer there for 2 hours to document the ceremony and then take our portraits.
  • I bought a little white dress and coat just for the occasion… even had it altered.
  • I had a “vision” … classic courthouse wedding. We planned our outfits and everything to fit with the look we were going for. I was thinking something along the lines of my grandparents’ wedding… where she wore a suit.
  • I DIY’d my brooch bouquet (I ended up collecting misc brooches from friends and family all over the country. As soon as they fond out what I was doing, they all waned to contribute! It made the bouquet really special. I also made my DH’s bout, my fascinator for my birdcage veil and I sparkled my own heels.
  • We wanted the day to be special, intimate and romantic. So we had breakfast together, got ready together and after the ceremony and photos, we had dinner at a nice restaraunt before hitting up our hotel suite!
  • We booked our honeymoon to Mexico to leave the Sunday after our Friday ceremony. Having the hotel on the wedding night and then leaving right away for a honeymoon also helped to make it feel more “real”.

Good luck with your decision and planning!

@JuniperSage:  I hope you don’t mind that I refrence your lovely photos for anyone who mentions courthouse wedding on here.  I think they are the most perfect romantic example of how it can be done at the courthouse!

Mine was in a courthouse and I loved it.  We didn’t do anything special and it was perfect. I think bringing a photographer is a good idea.

@JuniperSage: I have been using your photos to show my Fiance how lovely a courthouse elopement could be. πŸ™‚ Your photographer did a great job capturing the magic of your wedding day. Love them!

Not engaged to SO yet, but we have discussed a courthouse wedding.  At first we wanted desitination on a beach, then figured it might be easier (and more practical) to have a few friends and family at the courthouse, then do a beach honeymoon.  Those are lovely CH wedding photos but part of me can’t wrap my head around the fact that I won’t be able to choose decor, etc.  I know you can’t exactly do that at the beach either, but it’s the BEACH!

I have plenty of time to plan, but I do enjoy looking at all of the possible options! πŸ™‚

We are gettning married at the courthouse too and I couldn’t be happier. Ours is really old and its all this pretty brick and stone outside. We are doing it in December so i am hoping for a gorgeous snow that day to get some nice pics outside afterwards. We ar going to take our pooch. Obviously he can’t go in the courthouse but we are going to have some pics taken with him afterward.
