I would suggest getting the dress you like.  there’s no certain “style”.  A friend’s daughter got married at the courthouse in April and she had a DB dress – trumpet style.  She looked beautiful.

Oh shoot… I had one in mind for you from DB… it was a short ruched taffeta dress with a matching high necked jacket that was my absolute FAVOURITE for a courthouse or other casual wedding, and it looks like DB discontinued it.  CRAP.  I absolutely loved that dress and it looked fantastic on every kind of figure.  Also, I think it was like $200 bucks, so a total steal.

If you want to see a thousand style ideas, google the phrase “little white dress”

Depends.  I go to the courthouse all the time and see brides wearing full on wedding gowns as well as simple white suits (and even street clothes.)  They built a new courthouse in my hometown of Jacksonville, Florida and it has a nice chapel for wedding ceremonies where a full wedding gown wouldn’t look out of place.  The one local to me only has a white plastic arch in a corner of the clerk’s office and it is butt ugly; needless to say I would be disappointed to get married at my local courthouse.  I would check around and see if there are differences between your local courthouses and maybe go a few times to watch a few ceremonies to see how people dress.

But at the end of the day, if you want to wear a full on, poofy gown, go for it!  Everyone will know it’s your wedding day and they will congratulate you on your way to the courthouse.

This is the dress I’m wearing to my courthouse wedding next month.  I’m pairing it with pearl earrings and a birdcage veil/fascinator.
