My Fiance and I are talking about getting married at the courthouse a year or so before our “big wedding” (for insurance purposes). I still want to have a photographer and dress up, etc. I’ve never been to any of the courthouses in Baltimore (I currently live in NC – we are moving in a few weeks). I’m curious which courthouse would be the best (prettiest, etc)? I really want to have some nice pictures and I’ve seen some really nice courthouse wedding pics so I’m hoping to get something similar but I don’t know which courthouse to choose. Thanks!!

The courthouses really depend on which county you are getting married in. For instance, if you are married in Baltimore city then I think its the Clarence Mitchell Courthouse downtown that you would get your license from and get married in. For Baltimore County, I think the Towson courthouse is where you get your marriage license. I would look through the different counties (Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County, etc.) to see the different requirements and then choose the courthouse.

Thanks!! I’ve looked for pictures online trying to get an idea of what the courthouses look like. I really want a pretty courthouse so we’d end up with nice looking pictures. I’ve seen the Anne Arundal (Annapolis) courthouse and it looks really nice. I guess I just need to get familiar w/ the others.

The Courthouse in Annapolis is in a really pretty area, and also check out the one in Harford County, it’s about the same distance away from central Baltimore, and it’s tucked away in a nice little area, and the little room they marry you in is not a cold ugly room either. I had friends get married there almost 2 years ago, and it was very cute. She didn’t wear a big white dress, but a tea length white dress with a little crinoline under it, carried a bouquet and he wore a very nice suit. PM me and I can send you some pics.

The Baltimore County courthouse in Towson has beautiful grounds, especially in the spring and summer.

The inside of the Baltimore City Courthouse is great. the courthouse has amazing architecture, marble floors, and you can get some cool shots outside if you’re into the city vibe (I happen to be sitting in the Clarence Mitchell Baltimore City courthouse as I type this–for jury duty). Towson is just okay in my opinion. If you don’t mind driving a bit, the courthouse in Easton (on the eastern shore) and the courthouse in PG county are both very cool, but architecturally very different. What look did you have in mind? I’m a lawyer, so I’ve been to almost every circuit court in the state so i’d be happy to give you some more input.
