- Wedding: May 2021
Now that covid is spiking for the fall, I figured it’s a good time to resurrect this account to post my recapt from May! Better late than never, right?
We postponed our wedding/reception until May 2021, and fingers crossed that can still go on as planned. I’m hopeful! But for this past May, we decided to get married on our original date, just the two of us. We visited outside with both sets of parents that morning, and our mothers signed our wedding certificate to make it official! We always planned to have a Quaker, self-uniting ceremony, so that part at least worked out.
That afternoon, we exchanged vows, very informally. We wanted to say a little something to each other, exchange rings, and have that “first kiss” moment. It was so special! We set up the paper chain backdrop in our guest bedroom, which gets good light, and set up flowers sent to us by friends and family to form a little ceremony space. The paper chain backdrop was originally planned to be the photobooth backdrop at our reception, so we’ll get two uses out of it.
One advantage of eloping at home: no audience to see me bawling my eyes out over our vows! It was great to be as emotional as I wanted without feeling like I needed to hold it together. haha.
I wore a dress, shoes, and jewelry I already owned. I bought a crinoline for the dress and the gold heart belt. We took pictures ourselves near our house with a remote shutter on my now-husband’s cell phone. Doing photos was really fun! And we baked our own cake (I like to bake), which turned out delicious. It was a lemon blueberry cake 3-layer cake with a blueberry cheesecake in the middle.
Otherwise, there were two splurges for the day. One, my bouquet, which I was/am totally obsessed with! I have faux personals planned for the big celebration, but I figured to hell with to cost-saving when the whole day got pushed back. I even got the bouquet professionally dried and cast in resin, which I love and would highly recommend doing! Let me know if there’s any interest in pictures of the cast florals. The second splurge was a big order of takeout at a fabulous restaurant near us for dinner.
If anyone out there is torn over re-scheduling a wedding this fall/winter, don’t be. I’m so glad we did the safest thing, and hey, now we get TWO wedding days! 😉 It was an incredibly special day to get married.
^ Glamour shot of the bouquet. So, so glad I went all in on it! ^
