@Laurenskii: WOW just WOW. My heart aches for that poor little boy and I pray he is able to gain weight and recover and live a normal healthy life. As a pregnant mom myself, I am sitting here thinking how even though I only found out a week ago, I have completely changed ALL my eating/drinking habits because I want this baby to get all of the nutrition he/she needs. I never used to drink water. Ever. I hate it. I am now forcing myself to drink at least 32-64 oz of water per day because it’s what the baby needs. I went from drinking 24 oz of coffee per day ( no soda though) to 1 6oz cup in the am and no soda at all. I just cant understand the selfishness of some people.

I hope her little one recovers. I’m not one for smoking at all, but even when people do everything right sometimes bad things happen to their little ones. I don’t wish it on anyone.

I remember your orginal post about this. It just makes me sick. Poor kid.

@This Time Round:
she never wanted to be pregnant in the first place and her baby daddy isn’t really a part of her life anymore so I have a feeling this child is in for a rough time. Maybe this will be he wake up call she needs now that she’s SEEING the consequence of her actions.

Gosh, this is one of the main reasons I could not be a NICU or Peds nurse because of the parents – I would have a hard time not saying anything. I hope the baby gets better soon.

@Laurenskii: You’re a nurse right? So I assume she is as well? Obviously she knows better. I don’t feel bad for her but I sure do feel bad for the poor innocent baby.

@julies1949: is right…
Addiction is a serious issue… not just personal, but social too.
I perhaps should not have been so harsh in my post (Reply # 13)
It just is one of those cases that makes me soooo FRICKIN ANGRY
(Probably more so, as I read the original post that Laurenskii:
made 3 months ago… even if Mom had stopped then… 3 months might have made a world of difference for this innocent one)
— — —
To @Laurenskii: I went back and read you previous post. I see from your last post that she didn’t even want this baby… hence the “denial” that she even was pregnant affecting a living thing with her behaviors.
Any news on that front ? Now that the baby has some issues is she thinking she’ll give him up ?
Or does it look like she’ll be milking this self-fueled pity party for all its worth ?
Grrrrrrrrrr… more anger on my part !!

No way am I going to buy in to this “addiction” excuse. I’m not saying i don’t believe in addiction, but I know so many mothers who smoked constantly and stopped 100% when the found out they were pregnant. Not only that, but one woman I know had a whole family that stopped smoking, too. Even if you start smoking after the baby is born, for goodness sake, take some responsibility for the health and life of your child.

@FireLily0: me either…
@MrsPanda99: yeah, we both are. It’s really sad
@This Time Round: I’m pretty sure she’s keeping him and talking about quitting her job and living on unemployment….I have no idea what gave her that idea but it’s a dumb one.
@FutureWifeyV: I agree 100% with you. It’s not just your life anymore when you decide to go through with a pregnancy

I think it’s horrible and irresponsible but for what it’s worth, I’ve heard quitting smoking is harder than quitting heroin.
This is from 1987! http://www.nytimes.com/1987/03/29/magazine/nicotine-harder-to-kickthan-heroin.html?pagewanted=all&src=pm

I would anonymously give her adoption information. Sounds like she would jump at the chance to get money for her baby, being as crappy a person as she seems.

In her mind, there’s probably no way this is linked to her smoking habit. And, sadly, it’s impossible to say if it’s a direct correlation (even though it likely is) because so many people roll the dice and have healthy babies even while making poor health choices while pregnant. I feel bad for the kid, and angry at her. I hope he starts thriving.

So sad. Hope baby is okay. Was he born early or just low birth weight at full term?
It kills me that people get away with this while my friend had a CPS investigation done after giving birth to her baby because she ate a poppy seed bagel right before she went to the hospital so she failed the drug test.

@Laurenskii: ……………….okay….i don’t feel bad for HER…but I feel bad for the baby.
This is why I preach that people should require some sort of license to have a baby. there should be some sort of pre-qualification in order to have a baby..i know i sound crazy but when i read about MORONS like this…it makes you think..how much more stupid can stupid people get!!!!!!!!!!!

How dare you judge someone like this. Fair enough you have your thoughts and feelings but you are now inviting strangers who have not met her nor have any knowledge of her personal situation to attack her while she is going through something so tragic. She is going to be a single mum – how about rather than attacking her you offer some support?? You have no idea what’s going on in her life to drive her to this or what steps she is taking to quit. For all you know she could be consulting a Dr for strategies. She may be using this as an outlet rather than taking antidepressants which could cause worse damage to her child.
I’m certainly not advocating smoking while pregnant but no one deserves this.
