Would it be possible to try on dresses, find a dress that you love and then try to find it on ebay, craigslist, weddingbee, etc? That would include the best of both worlds! ๐Ÿ™‚

 Good luck finding a dress!

Yes I second that!  Then you can also go to ebay, preownedweddingdresses.com and many other sites but you need to at least know what type of dress and maybe a good brand and size for yourself.  Alterations could be costly if you don’t get the right size.  Also there are many sample sales that have affordable dresses.

I don’t know how much money he is hoping to save. I peeked on Craig’s List and wasn’t too impressed and I live in DC. Sites like oncewed.com and preownedweddingdresses.com are better bets to find styles you will actually like for less than full price. Also, Jessica McClintock (you can look online) sells wedding dresses that are often only a couple hundred dollars. Just because it looks good in a picture doesn’t always mean it is the style for you. I think you should at least visit a shop so you can find out what style looks best on you.

What about David’s Bridal?  I tried on a dress for $299!  It was really nice!  Or you can try ebay and get one cusom made from China.  A guy in our office said his wife did that and it was perfect!

Depending on the kind of dress you are looking for, you should also try department stores. I bought my dress at macy’s for $60, and you would not know that it didn’t come from a bridal shop.  It is a prom dress I think, but still.  You never know whey you will get lucky.

I bought my 4th dress from Craigslist and it ended up being the BEST decision ever. After spending roughly $4,000 total on 3 dresses I was NOT about to drop another $800.00

So I checked my local Craigslist and searched and searched and searched. It turned out a girl I had went to HS with was selling her dress for a measley $300! it was brand new with tags on it and in perfect condition, just a size too big.

Honestly, I was a little nervous about it, but I was able to try the dress on first and LOVED it.  I guess it’s really a matter of luck, but if you’ve got a while before the wedding, it’s worth it to really scour Craigslist..you never know, you could find your dream dress for next to nothing. ๐Ÿ™‚

Good luck!

Isn’t it funny how guys interpret things? Your Fiance is all excited about the prospect of saving $, but his craigslist suggestion takes all the fun out of it for you!! I think missbean has it right. Don’t miss your chance to gown search in person and then check all the discount websites…

Try Davids Bridal!  They have $99 sales all the time, I got the exact dress I wanted for $107 there.  ๐Ÿ™‚  Give that a shot!

Futuremrslerman – I did this exact same thing. But I bought the dress too big. I paid $100 for the dress (it was like custom-made because they make the dresses from scratch) and $50 for expedited shipping. However, I didnt know I could send them my exact measurements, and instead ordered a size 10 to fit the largest part of me (hips!). Anyway, the dress turned out really nice, but really big, and it would’ve cost me $400+ to get it altered. So I actually posted the dress on craigslist but haven’t had any luck selling it so far.

Yeah my advice would be to try on some dresses in the style you like to see how it would look on you, then try to find it on the preownedweddingdresses website. Beware of any other websites…I almost got scammed, and I’m the seller!
