I don’t have a whole lot of advice I can offer, but I will say that a menstrual cramp is more of a dull annoying ache. There is no tingling and no sharpness. When I was younger, I confused my cramps for a stomachache until I finally caught on to the pattern. Probably not very helpful, and maybe what a cramp feels like varies from person to person and different during a pregnancy, but just thought I would tell you. Good luck, and I hope you hear from the doctor soon!

I am hoping that all is well and it is a normal sign. My first thought is the famous Braxton Hicks contractions. They can start in the second trimester. Mine actually feel like cramping and are very random and not everyday but as I get closer to the due date, I am feeling more of them.

I would read up on BH, you might find the info interesting. One of the things that helps take them away is drinking at least a big glass of water and laying down. Just note that being dehydrated, full bladder etc. can set them off.

Good luck to you and please keep us posted!

@flbeachbride – I totally understand!! I am HORRIBLE at describing how my body is feeling, especially with this pregnancy. I don’t like hearing that you are feeling pressure or that your belly “dropped” already but the body does all types of weird things and unfortunately not one of us is alike. Going to the doctor will at least give you some piece of mind. Sometimes us mommies to be need it.

I know it’s difficult, but try to relax. Can you take a nice warm bath or put a warm compress on your belly? It sounds like it might be your ligaments or muscles stretching. BH contractions don’t usually hurt, your belly just gets really, really tight. If you’re feeling faint though and getting hot flashes, it’s probably good to talk to the doc asap, maybe there is somthing going on with your blood pressure…  I hope you feel better soon though! Pregnancy can be so scary, it seems like there is always somthing weird going on.

Try to stay calm.  I definitely know what it’s like to feel scared or freaked out!  I had some pretty random things happen during my pregnancy too.  I had sharp pains that were my ligaments stretching.  I also had sharp pains with a series of false labor contractions (which felt totally different than braxton hicks).  Since your doctor is going to see you, maybe the first step to feeling better is just to relax and trust that by the end of the day you’ll know what’s going on.  Will they let you leave work to go to the doctor?

Great! I am so glad to hear it wasn’t anything serious. Now you know what that feeling is like so you can be less nervous about it when it creeps up again. This pregnancy is a learning process and a better way to get to know your body!
