My bridal shower isn’t until August but I was thinking about getting them a necklace or a gift card or something. They aren’t throwing a bridal shower for the gift, they’re throwing it because they love you 🙂 Your idea sounds nice. They’d feel very special with whatever you give them

Your idea is lovely. Don’t break the bank — you want to acknowledge the time and resources that they contributed towards the event, but it doesn’t have to be a lavish gift. I stuck with a “shower” theme for the three women who hosted my shower — so B&BW shower gel, lotion, and a nylon puff in a pretty basket for each. But you know them and what they’d like — a g/c would be great. So would a basket of high-end foodstuffs (teas, chocolates, baked goods, fresh fruit), or some really great stationery, or a wine basket…etc, etc. 🙂 And of course, the card thanking them, which is really the highlight. No matter what, your thoughtfulness will be appreciated.

@breadandbutterflies:  take a look at this recent topic on the same subject.  I took a Quote from the Post Institute ~ Emily Post *Wedding Etiquette* that has very comprehensive info on this (appears as Reply # 14)

As well check out ASPASIA475’s Reply # 22 in the same topic.

Lol, us too Etiquette Snobs, have all the bases covered for you…

I think that a gift card to a restuarant is a great idea! I didn’t know about these gifts until not that long ago either. I am defiantly getting my hostess(es) gift cards.

Yes, you must get them a gift.

@breadandbutterflies:  Gift cards are a great idea. Village_skeptic is right, it doesn’t have to be anything lavish, just something that acknowledges your gratitude. Make sure you send a thank you note afterwards, too.

I’ve hosted three bridal showers, and have never received a thank you gift. I am pretty sure it isn’t common in my region, although I fully plan on getting hostess gifts when I have my shower because I think it is a wonderful gesture after they did so much for you.

Oh wow. When I had my baby shower, my mom didn’t get a single hostess gift. I’d never even heard of this. And my mom never said a word about it, and she’s Miss Old-World-Etiquette who has never been shy to point out etiquette transgressions! Maybe its a regional thing?

I got the hostess a nice giftcard to a local restaurant and a few good bottles of wine. My mom and Future Mother-In-Law got wine and a framed photograph of the two of us from our engagement photos.

For my first wedding I got my Bridesmaid or Best Man also the hostess a cd she really wanted.

I also paid for the meal at my shower.

They were totally not expecting it as bridal showers aren’t that big in the UK. I won’t be having one this time, this time round it’s about me and my SO.

Lots of great ideas here and here.  I’m doing monogrammed robes with a note saying, “Here’s something for your next shower!”

Gifts are necessary!! It takes alot of time (and money) to plan a shower, so it’s nice to show your appreciation with a little gesture.

My shower hostesses are my Future Mother-In-Law, my mom and my 2 FSILs and I am getting them each a spa gift certificate for a massage.
