I am craving hot wings or hot tenders. There is this one place I had them at and it turned into a craving. Nothing else sounds good but those. lol
Well last night I was talking to a family member and they asked what I was craving. I told her hot and spicy tenders. She looked at me like I had done something wrong. Then said, “Oh no no.”
Is it bad to eat spicy stuff while in the first trimester?

No. I ate it my whole pregnancy.

No – there’s no harm in eating spicy stuff. I take it you aren’t experiencing morning sickness because the only downside to the spicy stuff is you might throw it back up and it’s going to hurt!!
I had a serious buffalo sauce craving in the beginning. I’d slop it all over my eggs, chicken tenders, etc. I made burgers the other night and flavored the raw beef with it and then grilled them. They were amazing.
I ate a really curry heavy dish once and then threw it all back up so didn’t do that again. 🙂

@Cady: They are soooo good! Before this pregnancy I was super sensitive to them. I couldn’t even have a lick of one without my mouth feeling on fire. Now they are all I want! lol

@peanuthead: Yikes I didn’t even think about that! I bet that would hurt to throw up.

If you family member has had children, she’s likely having flashbacks to her own pregnancy, and she probably had severe heartburn. You’re fine. As long as you’re not getting sick and not getting acid reflux, which can be dangerous to your stomach/intestinal/esophegial linings, then eat away 🙂

One of my friends craved wings her entire pregnancy and never ate them before. Another friend craved peanut butter all the time! Some people told her she shouldn’t have it because it would make the kid allergic but she’s a doctor and told them to stuff it.

Nothing wrong with eating spicy foods. If you talk to enough people, you will start feeling like there is NOTHING safe to eat in the first trimester, or throughout pregnancy for that matter.

I looooove spicy stuff, but it seems to be giving me heartburn lately 🙁 You’re safe, though!

No, you may just get heartburn, but not bad to eat spicy.

I love spicy food and I ate it when I wasn’t pregnant and I currently have no plans to stop now. I think it’s just a worry about heartburn and general indigestion, but if you aren’t suffering from that post-consumption, then you’re okay. There are a lot of old wives’ tales that suggest that spicy food affects the baby’s temperament, personality, skin, etc. but scientifically, I’m not sure if there’s a correlation.

No it’s completely fine – unless you get really bad heartburn! I crave hot fries (the kind in the blue bag) all the time.

Totally fine. I crave spicy food as well and since I stopped throwing up and don’t seem to have issues with heartburn as of yet, no harm. I am waiting for the day when heartburn surprises me though, and then I guess I’ll regret it.

In my first trimester, I practically drank the hottest salsa I could get my hands on. Keep tums handy though! 😉
