My husband and I bought a house in a super small, unless-you-know-it’s-there-you’ll-miss-it development. When I reached out to my insurance agent, with with whom I had been with for a decade+ to set up my home owners insurance- turns out he not only had lived in my development but sat on the board of the HOA. Because of this, he knew we qualified for a a much less expensive policy due to stipulations within the HOA bylaws, saving us a substancial amount of money. While not mind blowing, it was a very happy and welcomed coincidence while closing on our home!

I was on a trip abroad in a country where I have relatives. I was with a group of other college kids, and a tour guide. When I introduced myself to the tour guide, she said my name is really unique and she’s never met anyone with this name… but funny enough, she knows a guy who runs a grocery store named that. I was pretty surprised – it was a grocery store in another town, an hour away, and I know the place very well because it’s my uncle that runs it. So it turned out the guide knows my uncle’s family. Small world! And no, he didn’t name the store after me, but after the daughter of his business partner – another coincidence.
The same uncle was flying over to visit my family in the US, and randomly ran into a former patient of my doctor grandma’s, who still remembered her and insisted on sending her a gift. Imagine our surprise when my uncle arrived and took a giant tray of pastries out of his suitcase, and explained where it came from!
I know a kid whose two best friends share birthdays with him and his mom. They all met when they were too little to count, so I’m pretty sure they didn’t bond over the birthday thing – we found out after they’d known each other for a while.

We were flying to Portland, OR and a woman sat in the seat next to me. We started talking and she had just flown in from Portugal and was connecting at JFK on her way home to Portland. She mentioned where she was originally from which is a small town hours upstate near Canada. My now-husband said “Oh really, my mom lives in that town. What road did you grow up on?” Turns out the woman was the daughter of my MIL’s next door neighbor who are also my MIL’s best friends! So random that she happened to be seated next to me.

I think this is really cool, as an earth science nerd!
