We skipped chargers, and just put the napkin in the middle of the placesetting.  You don’t have to have chargers!  🙂  If you’re set on them, maybe post in the classifieds asking if any other brides around your date want to “share” them (you could buy them and split the cost between you).  When I was originally planning to use chargers, I did that, and got several responses from local Maryland ladies.  I think fabric ones could also look nice.

I’m DIY’ing chargers.  I found 10″ glass plates at Dollar Tree and purchased swarovski crystals to rim them with.  Each plate has a 3mm crystal every inch around the entire thing.  I love them!  They look really high end and have a custom feel to them plus when they get anywhere near candlelight they sparkle so much!  It’s less than $1.20 for each plate to make.

I was thinking about asking for double the napkins from our venue.  One to go under the plate on one to be the napkin.  Not sure how it will look though… but a thought!

Check your local walmart on the off chance they have any christmas stuff still available. I bought my chargers after christmas for $1.25 a four pack and they had both silver and gold.

I was going to say what nannettenicole said. They always have tons left after Thanksgiving and Christmas. I almost bought some, but then just decided to do chargers on my reserved tables for the bridal party only so I am renting really nice wrought iron ones from my caterer.
