Mom’s and all – I need your help!
A good friend’s first daughter is having a 1-year old party in a few weeks. I’d LOVE to figure out an outside the box type present for her. My friend is super creative and I’d like the gift to be memorable. Her daughter is a complete joy and is ALWAYS smiling.
Any ideas for a memorable gift?
Have you received any b’day gifts for your child that you adored or really appreciated? (any age ideas are welcome)

For Addie’s first birthday, we’re getting her a 12 month pass to the local tot gym. The same place also just started weekly music classes I would LOVE to enroll in, but unfortunately, they’re during the week while I’m working. 🙁 Maybe something like that? Personally, I really like “experience” type gifts, since we already have a billion clothes/toys/books/etc…

Well i usually do diaper cakes for baby showers… but since she is turning one, you can do something similar to a diaper cake with towels, decorate with stuff she can play with or use… the idea is that everything on it can be used. ITs fun to make too!

@Mrs. Spring: That’s interesting you said that – the ONLY thing I could think of was an annual pass to the local zoo… but, I wasn’t sure if that would be appreciated or not…

@oracle: We live 2 hours from the Sacramento zoo, and Addie’s been twice already. 🙂 I think that’s a fantastic gift! Plus, zoos often have a lot of special and holiday events they can use the pass for; I wish we were closer to the Sac zoo, or we’d probably go like once a month!

How about a personalized book or plate? I think kids enjoy seeing something with their name on it.

We just bought a one year old a savings bond, plus a really cute hoodie. I really didn’t like how the baby clothes were obviously so “boy” or so “girl” but I guess the dad gives into that a lot. You can tell he dressed her if she’s head to toe pink

Thanks everyone for the ideas! I ended up wanting to buy a pass to the zoo, but it ended up being a little more than I was able to spend, so I ended up with a cute personalized book from I See Me. Thanks @ImHungry247 for the suggestion!

Hm, maybe a “Mommy, Daddy, and Me” arts and crafts book? It can be something as simple as a blank canvas book for her parents to do arts/crafts type things with?? Maybe a set of finger paints/crayons would go nicely with it. I always thought it’d be cool to memorilize a kids “creative” spirit as they grow into their own little person.
This might be a bit advanced for a 1 year old though…..
