The bride and groom walking in together as equals is actually a very old tradition and has been done in other places as well as Sweden. It was the tradition for weddings among the early Christians (the father giving the bride away is a secular tradition that came into vogue much, much later).

Fiance and I walked in together at the end of our processional. We had our wedding party walk in in little “clusters” – a bridesmaid, groomsman, and flower girl or ring bearer (they were all pretty little, so we thought it would be easiest to have them walk with an adult rather than by themselves). Our two sets of parents walked in together, right before us. (We didn’t have any grandparents in attendance, but if we had, we would have also included them in the processional). It was beautiful and family-centered and exactly what we wanted!
