@vintagebride143:  Some people I know have had good experiences there, but I hated it.  so.  much.  I can’t reccommend I do… I do enough.  They were so great!  There’s a place in Caldwell or West Caldwell that I’ve also heard really good things about, but I’ve never been there (and I can’t remember the name – but can search for it if you want).

Also, I got trapped in the elevator at Bijou, so there’s that.

Yes some salons in NYC require it to book an appointment. I encountered this too.

@vintagebride143:  I went to a total of about 9 stores and this happened to me at 1 store as well. I showed up for my appointment so I was never charged but def it is strange. I was in shock too!

@vintagebride143:  jee, i would probably look elsewhere. Most places i visited you didnt even need an appointment (except the higher end boutiques) i am so NOT comfortable giving out my cc number to everyone and their uncle…

@vintagebride143:  I had to do this several times as well when I was trying on gowns at different stores in the NYC area. It’s quite annoying and I was paranoid they were gonna charge me.

I would just make sure you ask them specifically how you can cancel your appointment in case you need to. Some will say you need to give them 24 hours notice – and if that’s the case, make sure you note the times they are open so you can give them a call at the right time.

@vintagebride143:  I had to do that for a salon too. It wasn’t all that weird to me.

I would not feel comfortable. Try somewhere else.

@vintagebride143:   I went to stores in central nj and eastern pa, and never had to leave credit card information.  If I had been, I’d have looked elsewhere for a dress.  That would just make me feel pressure to buy – $50 to try on dresses??  For an hour appointment?  No way.

I’ve only ever had this happen at my dermatologist but I can see why they would do it. I wish my company would do the same thing, I work on a client-appointment basis and you’d be shocked at how many people just don’t show up and don’t bother to call and let me know either.

There’s a bridal salon here that requires a $25 deposit to try on dresses. They say it’s because they had a ton of people come in and try on dresses for fun and waste the consultant’s time. They give you the $25 back on the dress if you buy it, but I don’t know what happens if you don’t buy a dress from them.

Most of my friends have gone to the other one, because of this cost. They don’t want to pay to try on dresses, and they also hide their dresses upstairs and only let you up there if you’re paying to try them on. They have a limit of like 3 extra people too. They’re kind of a weird salon.

Another Canadian… I’ve never heard of that practice before…

Ya I’d be a tad leary too.

And more than likely it would make me want to go elsewhere.

(Lol, maybe except for Kleinfelds… I love SY2TD… but sadly I could never afford to shop there, so no point even going near the place, let alone dreaming it could be so)

I purchased my dress from Kleinfeld and they make you provide your CC info when making an appointment. They only charge you if you are a no show I believe.
