So today I came across an article that introduced me to Toddlewood- a photographer’s project that takes inner-city children and transforms them into miniature celebrities in order to recreate iconic photographs. Apparently the project started in 2008 when the photographer was looking for a project which could include her 3-year-old daughter.
The original article with photos is here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2264051/Adorable-kids-recreate-A-listers-Golden-Globes-looks–right-red-carpet-poses.html
I can’t decide how I feel about this!
On one hand, when I first look at the photos, my initial reacion is, “Oh my gosh, how CUTE!”
But then after a minute I’m like… Hmmm… All that makeup, and those clothes… Seems a little creepy, maybe? Clearly not Toddlers in Tiaras status, but still.
What do you think???

I am a fan of toddlers and tiaras (when they dont go too over the top!) so I think it’s adorable!!! I have a friend whose daughter does paegants.

Definitely creepy! Especially the little girls in strapless dresses!

I can’t decide, I’m too distracted by the fact that her definition of “toddler” is way different from mine. What can I say, it’s the little things that throw me off.

Cute! I love projects like this but I don’t like when kids are dressed too adult for their age in real life (leggings and blazers at 6, tube top anything, etc.)

Author and local community leader from Pittsburgh (yay!) wrote an amazing book called Making the Impossible Possible. In that book he said “how can you expect a person to live a better life if they don’t know what a better life feels like”.
I read that book almost 6 years ago and that single quote has stuck with me since. So, yes, it may be creepy that kids are dressing like that, but just think of the self-esteem these kids are getting. A new image of themselves or what they COULD be someday.

Oohhh, I do not lie that it’s feeding into the whole celebrity thing. I kinda feel there’s too much focus put on how important being famous is, and I don’t think that’s too great. I mean, if everyone wants to be famous, who’ll be the doctors?

Good lord! That is disturbing.

I think it’s cute! These kids are probably models/actors and not just random kids

@bellaluna290: According to the article:
“She told Today.com: ‘I held a casting call for the Golden Globes red carpet the day before. These are regular kids who happen to like taking pictures.’“

@bellaluna290: According to the article, they actually are just regular kids! 🙂 She did the casting call the night before and had 200 kids apply.

Normally, I think the whole toddler and tiara thing is just creepy. However, I do like these. These girls may never, ever be able to dress and feel as special as they do in these pics. The photographer may have let these girls feel GOOD about themselves and let them strive to achieve the best for themselves.

im not a big fan of very young children wearing lots of makeup and pouting for the camera. it just seems…wrong

i see nothing wrong with this… and most of the kids seem a lot older than ‘toddler’ age.
this is no more than you would dress up/make up a kid if they were going to be one of these celebrities for halloween.
