You can, but you need the software to connect your computer to the Cricut.  If you have a Mac I think the only option is “Sure Cuts A Lot.”  Cricut has it’s own software, which I think you can download from their site.  As I understand it, you create svg files in Illustrator and import them into the Cricut software.

I believe the Cricuit Design Studio software does this

The “Cricut Design Studio” only lets you COMBINE cutouts from various cartridges you own. It does not allow you to use your own created *.svg files. You must purchase and buy all of the cartridges that you’d want to use… so there’s a true limit there if you’re looking to do anything creative.

Instead, you can buy either of two software packages that essentially “hack” the Cricut and let you create your own designs.  They are Sure Cuts a Lot (SCAL) and Make the Cut. Both let you import saved *.svg files from any vector program and command your Cricut to cut as you desire. They also allow for WYSIWYG creation of cutouts within the program using your inventory of fonts and vector graphics. You just need a USB cable to connect your machines, and any cartridge plugged into your Cricut to make it all work 🙂

I’ve never cut anything from a cartridge — only cut using the software!

Sure Cuts A Lot rocks! I haven’t used it to it’s full potential just yet, but I love being able to use tons of downloaded fonts and wingdings rather than buying expensive cartridges!

Pretty sure if you have sure cuts a lot you can do this on any model of the cricut, it asks you what model you have when you go to cut.

I put the links to both programs in my post above. Just click them and you can buy/download the software right away.

I’ve got another Cricut question…does anyone know when the Cricut Cake is coming out and how much it’s going to cost?

It looks like it will be coming out in May with a suggested retail price of $499.00. I just googled it and you can preorder for $349.00.

I thought the Cricut Cake was already out! I swear I saw it on Cake Boss not too long ago.  Guess I’m hallucinating…

I think I remember that episode too JoJo. They were probably promoting it, so people would be on the lookout for it when it does come out and also to get some preorders in.
