Fiance and I have to have our vows to our officiant by the end of this week! (Eek.) We decided that we wanted to write our own to say before saying traditional vows, and this is what I’ve come up with… I can’t show him obviously so would love some feedback from someone! (ps. he’s not sensitive about his height, but it is a running joke between him and basically everyone he knows LOL… i wanted to explain that before anyone said i was kind of rude bringing it up :P)
are they too long?
when i first met you, i was 18 and trying to find my place in the world. (you were ridiculously good looking, if a bit short.)
what can i say about how much we’ve grown together? how fast the last five years have gone! (you’re still ridiculously good looking, and i’ve grown quite fond of your height.)
i think i probably knew i’d marry you the first time you told me you loved me. i swear that moment is still etched in my mind like it was yesterday (including the awkward moment we had the next night, where you swore you didn’t remember any of the previous night’s conversation.) if i didn’t know then, i certainly knew when you packed up your life in a bunch of tupperware containers and unceremoniously moved into my teeny tiny apartment in a city six hours from your own friends and family.
as i stand before you today, about to become your wife, i know one thing for absolute certain – i have found my place in the world. my place is not a house, though we have a nice one. my place is not a career, though that is important to me as well. my place is, quite simply, with you.
ee cummings probably said it a lot nicer than i ever could:
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)
i promise that wherever we go in this life, i will be next to you — you are my fate. you are my place in this world.
