I can’t believe it! I’m engaged! I did not think he would propose yet, but HOLY CRAP he caught me off guard! And it’s a funny story too 🙂
I didn’t think he’d have my ring yet, because he was going to order an Amora Moissanite, and the waiting list for one has been slow. Turns out I was right, but the jeweler he ordered the setting from knew someone with an Amora Moissanite in stock, so I was entirely surprised!
My fiancé (still not used to saying that!) and I met up in Puerto Rico for a week of vacation. We both got there late on Friday, and the next morning we went to Old San Juan. We dropped off our luggage at our hotel and then went to explore. We went to the El Morro fort, ate some extremely yummy food, and walked all over the place. Somewhere in this time he made a comment about how he thought he knew which ring setting he wanted to get once the Moissanite came in. It was enough to convince me nothing would happen on the trip. I was relieved in a way, because I thought I wouldn’t get distracted wondering about it. Mid afternoon, I was getting exhuasted so I suggested we go back to the hotel to have a little break.
Our hotel was beautiful, I should say! Every surface was pretty much covered with plants, paintings, or sculptures. It had lots of character and all sorts of nooks and crannies to explore. It was hands-down the coolest hotel I’ve ever stayed at. The first thing we did when we got to our room was go check out our balcony, which overlooked Old San Juan. It, like the rest of the hotel, had all sorts of plants and scultpures.
I was enjoying the view when Fiance started saying all these incredibly sweet things. Unfortunately, I wasn’t fully paying attention for a few reasons:
1. He’s never been shy about telling me how much I mean to him.
2. I was convinced there wouldn’t be a proposal in Puerto Rico.
3. Mainly, I was distracted because he had chips of paint all over his face!
It turns out that the wrought-iron gate leading to our balcony had been painted black, and that paint was chipping. He must have gotten it on his hand, and since it was so hot he must have wiped his face! And so, while he was telling me that he never thought he’d love someone as much as he loves me, I was interrupting him, saying, “Babe, you’ve got paint on your face,” and trying to brush it off him! FI said, “Will you stop for a minute? I’m trying to do something!”
When he got down on his knee, I didn’t fully believe what was happening. I almost thought he was joking around with me, even though it isn’t in his character to fake a proposal. I just didn’t believe it. I was so confused. And then, he pulled out my ring! I was sparkling like mad in the direct sunlight. I always expected I would cry when he proposed, but bees, I laughed hysterically! I laughed because I was speechlessly surprised, and because of THE PAINT! Of course, I managed a “Yes!” in there somewhere.
We celebrated that night with an incredible paella dinner and champagne. I’m sad to be back home, now, and apart again. Luckily, he’ll be moving here in about 3 months, though. Needless to say, we are extremely happy, despite the distance.
I’m very excited to post pictures of my bling! And no, I’m not sorry for how big they are 🙂
You can see remnants of the black paint on my pinkie in this picture, haha!
