My FI proposed this weekend! I still can’t believe it!
He took the day off work Friday and said we were going on a mystery road trip and wouldn’t tell me anything. The destination ended up being Charleston, SC! We stayed at a bed and breakfast, had some fantastic food, learned a lot of history and saw some beautiful scenery. It was 65 degrees and sunny the whole time! He had made dinner plans for Saturday night in honor of our 5th anniversary. The restaurant was in a historic hotel and was really extravagant, so I was wearing fancy necklace/earrings. Right before we left for dinner he said that I had forgotten a piece of jewelry and motioned to the bedside table. I initially only noticed my watch, and said “Haha no, I’m not wearing my watch to dinner!” and he had to point out there was a box nearby. I opened it up, turned around and he was crying. He was SO nervous and could only manage to say “Will you?” before he broke down again. It was adorable and so surreal. I said “of course!”
He had asked my parents last weekend and told his parents, so we had two sets of family anxiously awaiting our phone call! Unfortunately we got home from dinner too late to call, so they were nervous it was bad news when we finally called the next day 😛 They are all so excited thankfully!
Even though I only wanted a simple solitaire, he still wanted to custom make it. He worked with a jeweler to create a piece that looked like the stone was floating, so it’s super sparkly! He also engraved the address of the place we met, and included two ‘secret stones’ that have a special importance to me inside the ring.

Congrats!! Don’t mean to burst your bubble, but if you secrect stones are on the inside of your band, be very very very careful. My late mom’s diamond was on the inside of my band and last night I discovered it was gone. I’ve only had it a month and a half.

Thank you all so much! It is so crazy to be writing one of these posts!
ksn1219: Ooo, thanks for the warning. Luckily they are very easily replaced if they do become lost, but I appreciate the heads up!
chic_and_fabulous: Of course!
The green/blue one is peridot, and the purple/red is garnet. I did geochemistry in undergrad and had mentioned to him once a few years ago that I wanted to get some jewelry made with these two stones in it since I thought they were so interesting. I didn’t want a colored center stone, so he included them as a secret way to acknowledge my love for these two minerals! It’s pretty geeky, but I’m impressed he thought of it!
kandykane1: Glad it’s encouraging to see a low number! The top of the list tends to stagnate and it can get discouraging to see all the #200s go so quickly. Hang in there, and I hope you get a proposal soon! 🙂
