Hi Vancouver Bees!
Just wondering if anyone has any experience buying a dress in the US? If so, did you have to pay duty on it? Did you get it fitted across the border as well, or did you find someone to do the alterations locally?

for the record if you come down to portland there is no sales tax! And because of that there are a lot of good bridal stores! I got my dress at a store in clackamas but there were tons to choose from!

I think it’s a good idea to get the dress at Portland too! You’ll save a lot cuz there’s no sales tax and the exchange rate is dropping lately.

yes you will have to pay taxes on it when you cross the border. My bestie got her dress at david’s bridal in the states and she got it fitted there too.. no problems for her!

Thanks ladies! I tracked down a dress I saw in a magazine locally. I’ll go try it on this weekend. I have not started dress shopping yet, and there’s no telling how the dress will look on me. So it’s great to know there are options for cross-border shopping!

I’m going to put in a plug for Portland too. I got my dress at Charlotte’s. Between a coupon and lack of sales tax, I saved hundreds of dollars.

I think you should do it!! Its great to go to the states as well because they carry a lot of lines that we do not carry in Canada (however Vancouver is more of a metropolis that does carry alot of designers not known in Canada) so it might be worth the look – you would have something different than what you would be seeing in Van, and the no-sales tax in Oregan…..
2 words – ROAD TRIP!
