I just put my wedding dress in the washing machine! It was a MESS from the wedding. Our photographer just called to tell me that she lost all of our edited photos from the wedding (she still has the raw images) so she has to re-edit them so she is going to do a free TTD session for me when it snows! I’m so excited! I just hope the washing machine cleans my dress and doesn’t ruin it!

@Mrs.SplatterPaint: What kind of fabric is the dress?
I thought most dresses had to be dry cleaned/professionally cleaned.

Ahh! How exciting! (Bummer that you have to wait on your pictures though) I would not worry too much it may have some loose threads or beads come off but I don’t think the wash will do anything that would ruin a TTD shoot. (Just be sure no red socks are in with it or you will have a pink dress! 🙂

It’s shantung taffeta. There have been numerous posts going around here about people putting their dresses in the washer. There is no beading or anything on it.

@Mrs.SplatterPaint: My fingers are crossed for you. But in teh little reseach I did it said that both Shantung and Taffeta should be dry cleaned.
I hope it works out for you!

@KatNYC2011: The tag said it’s 100% polyester so I’m hoping that means it will work. It should be done here shortly! Can’t wait to get it out and see!

I just pulled the dress out of the wash…the material is fine and the stain lightened but didn’t come out all the way (it was really bad!) I’m going to let it soak for awhile and then try washing it again!

So I really wish I had taken before pics but believe me when I tell you, the bottom of the dress was black from dancing with my shoes off all night and my dress dragging on the ground. It cost me $4 to clean it (I had to purchase an oxi clean stain stick) and I washed it 3 times (would have been less if I had bought the stain stick sooner)
There is only 1 small stain left across the back from where my dress was bustled. I need to know if you think I should treat it again and wash it to try to get rid of it all or just leave it alone.
Without further ado…here is my clean dress!

Close up of the bottom of the dress where it used to be black. I am amazed!

@HappilyEverAfter54: Thanks!
My husband was shocked at how clean it got compared to how nasty it was before…especially since I let it sit for 2 months.
So for all of you bee’s thinking about washing your dress, have no fear! It does work!

@Mrs.SplatterPaint: I wish I could do that for mine afterwards! Mine is beaded from front to back covering every inch on the top and the bottom is just 20 layers of organza… I don’t think mine would turn out as nicely tehe.
