I’m starting at a CrossFit-esque gym (not a CrossFit affiliate, but uses most of the same principles and types of workouts) tonight and I am TERRIFED! I took an orientation class on the weekend, which was fine, but now I’m scared to death that I’m going to be the only newbie in the class.
Any words of wisdom for a first-timer?!

You won’t get big legs lol. I’m pretty short, but people always comment on how nice my legs are. Crossfit actually tones and leans you out by getting rid of fat, and gets you great muscle definition.

Make sure the workouts are scaled to you. The benefit of crossfit (I can’t speak for crossfit-like exercises because I don’t know what it actually is) is that there are levels of fitness. You just have to make sure you stick with it. It makes you athletic. Not just for losing weight.

I have a groupon for 10 crossfit workouts but I haven’t used it yet because I’m terrified. Terrified of looking like a fool!

You shouldn’t let that stop you! I am way behind many of the others in my group, but I’ve received nothing but encouragement from all of them! No one expects you to be at the same level as those who have been there for a long time. 🙂

I have been doing xfit for a year now, and love the toning and stregth I have achieved. Some people call it a cult, and thats their opinion. I push myself very hard and feel awesome. I have started a paleo challenge and lost weight, but I do allow myself a cheat 🙂 I think it is a great way to workout and see what you are made of.
I go to the gym and run, but I really love xfit and hope to do it for a long time. At the beginning I was slow but I am getting there where I am doing prescription 🙂 Try it for a month, what do you have to lose?

I say just enjoy it, I get excited for new people 🙂 I try to help them anyway i can during our workouts. If someone is a jerk, then screw them. Do you and have fun!
