I’m going on a cruies in August and meeting my fiance at our port (he will be home for a 2 week vaca from his deployment in Afghanistan). All of his clothes are in storage at the last base we were stationed at and I moved hom during this deployment so I have no way of getting this things. I need to go shopping for him but have no idea what types of clothes to buy for dinners every night. We are cruising Carnival. Are dinners pretty relaxed or should he have dress pants and a nice shirt every night? I need help! Thank you!

I’ve been on a Carnival cruise, and if you plan to dine in the dining room most nights, I’d suggest you get him some nice clothes for those dinners. There were a couple of nights that were desginated as formal. In general though, the group I was with dressed nicely every night for dinner.
Also on cruises, though, are other dining options—more casual buffets and whatnot. Those options don’t require nice attire.
Sorry…I know that getting him nicer clothes is the more difficult of the options!

Usually two nights (7 day cruise) are formal and the other nights are business casual attire. Polo and khakis are fine! You could bring one suit for him (with two different shirts underneath for both nights) to save money and space in packing. 🙂
For women, two nice dresses and then the other nights you can wear more casual dresses or pants and a semi-formal top. 🙂 Have fun!
I’ve been on two cruises..loved them!!!

I agree with Gemstone – If you are going to eat in the dining hall (which is most common and has the best food), you’re going to need nicer clothes.
On a week long cruise, there are typically two nights designated as formal where men wear either suits or tuxes and women are in cocktail dresses (at a minimum – many will be in floor length gowns). Even on the non-formal nights, men typically wear nice slacks with a button down or nice polo and women are in sundresses, skirt/blouse, etc. Obviously people don’t dress like this all day, but cruise passengers do go get dressed up a bit before dinner.

There are usually two or three nights that are formal (nice dresses for women and suits for men) the rest are smart casual (sundresses/khakis) You could also search Carnival’s website to double chekc, there might also be a suggested packing list.
