@lolita39:  I was JUST on a Carnival cruise in May!

We pre-paid our tip, and gave extra to our two favorite head waiters! It’s WAY more convienent, and you WON’T get bad service on a Carnival cruise.

When you buy booze, they put the charge of the booze on your Sail n Sign card, and you tip when they give you the reciept slip to sign! So you choose the tip amount.

@lolita39:  A friend of mine pre-paid and said it was great. Now that I think about it, I agree with PP that I would pay according to service…it’s not that hard to write down $2 for a tip everytime you get a drink.

@Ninteenthchance: Carnival charges you a 15% automatic gratuity everytime you get an alcoholic or virgin beverage or soda.

We’re Platinum with CCL and we never pre-pay our tips. We always just pay them when it hits our Sign and Sail card or depending on which card we’re hooking up to our S&S we will remove them and pay them in cash. We’ve only ever had to remove grats once in 11 cruises and we gave what we removed to our dining room staff because they were truly fabulous.

ETA:We have pre-paid our tips once. If you do a cruise to nowhere it is required to pay them up front, but service was still great.

I feel like we have always paid at the end, and then paid our “favorite” attendants individually.
