I live in Florida.

I don’t think older people would be comfortable on crusies. They are incubator for germs and illnesses.

I love cruises, but I’d hold off and see what happens in the next 6 months.

@bluecutie00:  I love cruises, but cruise ships are petri dishes at the best of times. There are thousands of people in a confined space. I also don’t thinnk a vow renewal is something you surprise anyone with.

@bluecutie00:  This is not something to spring or impose on other people. Personally, I’m not a fan of most vow renewals because they imply these things have an expiration date. I would not step foot on a cruise ship any time soon and would definitely not want my parents on one.

I’d hold off.  Who knows what the cruise industry will be like by then, or if the various cruise lines will even survive.  There likely will be a 2nd or 3rd wave of COVID.

I also wouldn’t plan a surprise vow renewal for anyone.  Even though your mom has wanted a vow renewal and your dad will apparently go along with what happens, I think there’s something particularly awkward about planning and surprising someone with their vow renewal.  Something about removing their involvement from the planning minimizes the importance of the vows, to me.  Plus, presumably your mom would enjoy the planning and picking out a specific outfit/accessories to wear?

Lol, you got a lot of advice about everything except what you asked for.

Yes, I have done a vow renewal while on a cruise, it was years ago.  We did a vow renewal during our free time in port at Puerto Vallarta. We did not book anything through the cruise line, as those options were overpriced.  I went online and found a local officiant who specialized in beach renewals and weddings. He had recommendations as to where we could hold the ceremony and he knew a photographer at a reasonable rate. It was low-key with just my husband and me. If we had done something bigger, he also knew other vendors we could have used for other services.

If you know the ports of call well in advance, you could easily do a search on vow renewal officiants. The guy I used was well familiar with the cruise line schedules so he offers services that fit into the time window cruisers have.  A local officiant would know more of the available locations to hold the ceremony than the cruise line.

Hope this helps! Congrats to your parents on their anniversary.

@bluecutie00:  He was independent, and had his own website.  He knew other vendors and he knew who was good. We didn’t have to do anything except show up. I can’t remember how much his service was but it was very reasonable, and even with the photographer everything was much cheaper than the “cheapest” cruise line vow renewal package.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve never heard a story about a cruise that wasn’t a bit fucked up. And that’s before covid, lol.

Don’t book anything until you know how they feel about cruising moving forward. People I know who loved it will never cruise again. There was one ship here in Australia that accounted for like 1/6th of cases across the whole country.

Never in my life will I ever jump on a cruise ship

@harlequinade:

The demographic for cruises is OLD,  bee. Comfort is what it is actually about.

However, l think to be planning a cruise right now is close to insane . Look up Ruby Princess OP. It’s the ship pp refers to.
Also, are you sure they would be pleased with someone organising a secret surprise vow renewal for them? If people are into such things they would organise one for themselves l would think .
