Hello ladies. I wonder if I could get your input. Regarding crystal rhinestone cake banding. What kind do you prefer. I see them advertised as Swarvosky crystals and then I see them offered as rhinestones. And then sometimes as crystals. Obviously, the swarvosky crystals will cost more than rhinestones. (I would think) Does it matter that they aren’t swarvosky crystals? Wouldn’t rhinestone work just as well? And are the stones laid touching or by chain setting? If any of you are doing the crystal banding on your cakes, what type did you buy? I’m so confused about this topic. I see samples of the bands or chains and in some of the pictures it appears that the stones are laid touching. Do they come that way? Maybe they only look like they’re touching when several rows in chain setting are put on the cake. I hope the question isn’t too confusing. Also, would you use the rhinestone instead of swarvosky crystals in chain if they are dramatically cheaper? (As long as they were comparable in appearance)
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. 🙂

I think rhinestones would work just as well, no one but you and the person making your cake will know it ifs Swavorski crystals or not. They do sell crystals that are backed with ribbon or fabric that make it easier to put on your cake. Check out a fabric store like Joann’s or Michaels or ask your bakery what they advise.
Heres an Esty listing with what I think you are looking for, check it out. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=15952068

i am planning (pretty set on) having this typ of cake for my wedding, am just looking to find a nice band for reasonable price, i need 5 yards and it would cost me a fortune. If you guys are looking maybe we can get a discount on “bulk” buying or some’n. i love this cake since the day i saw it on the internet!
i am not sure what is “GOOD”. but for a fact i know i tried to check out Joanne’s fabric thinking i’ll save a lot witht he 40% off coupon – but i do not like what i see. their quality is pretty poor (yellow not very clear) and the way the rhinestones are connected look very cheap.
i got a sample from someone here selling on the board and it was NICE. too bad it is expensive, but i’m trying to save money for it now. i think it’s worth it to buy the nice one instead of the cheapy ones.

Well I’m not sure what ^^^you lsaw at joann fabrics but what I got was nothing like what you just described. It’s awesome. It actually has both clear and black crystals in it. I’m very satisfied with it. I most definitely wouldn’t have bought anything that was of as poor of quality as what you just described. That pic you posted is actually my cake inspiration. I gave that picture to my bakery and I have that exact cake topper.

maybe the item that Joanne’s Fabric here carries is subpar from some other stores! man i wish i can take advantage fo the 40% off coupon….
you’re so lucky! maybe u can post the band you purchased? i want to see if i am being overly picky… but yeah, Joanne’s wasn’t as good as the sample patch i receivd for sure. that was a bummer.

Do not get it at Joanns fabric! That crystal is cloudy and poor quality. I actually sell the 4 row crystal ribbon for $28 per yard. I also sell the 5 row for $35. It is shinny and looks exactly like swarovski. It is czech crystal which is almost the same. E-mail me at [email protected] if you are interested.
