Curious to chat with the Mystic CT brides- I am finding that what I want for my wedding is aparently out of the ordinary… since we aren’t doing a religious ceremony, we will have everything in one place (unless I get lucky and miraculously find a nice indoor non denominational chapel or location). I know Nov 1 is posted as my wedding date- it’s our goal date, but this site wont let me not enter something. Trying to have a fall 14/spring 15 wedding at Lat 41 River Room. We really don’t want to do the first look/sneak peak photos, but want to have enough time for good pix after the ceremony without missing a bunch of our own wedding. Based on brochures, and what I have heard so far, we can’t book the ceremony before 530 or 6PM and have a night time reception. Ideally we want at the latest a 4pm ceremony, 5PM cocktails, 6PM Reception to allow for photos, etc.. I know that seems like a lot of time between, but lets be honest, even though I am a huge stickler for time, not everyone is, I have never been to a wedding where anything hasn’t been at least 15-20 min late. I hate when that eats into the wedding time we pay so much for! And if it’s a nice day, there’s plenty for guests to do around mystic- hotel is right up the road too if folks want to freshen up, grab a drink, etc. Anyway- my point to this post- can we have an early ceremony? ALso, are there non-relig indoor options for the river room as a ceremony site? Greenmanville church or the north lawn are apparently the only options.. Its silly to rent a tent just for the lawn ceremony (we can maybe do everything in the tent, but again, I would want it for longer time), but they only mention church and lawn. Curious if anyones had luck with extending their time or found other non religious brides have found nice locations for ceremonies?

- Wedding: June 2014 - Latitude 41
I am getting married on the North Lawn and having my reception in the River Room but we are doing pictures beforehand so it works out for us. The Greenmanville Church and North Lawn are the only options I am aware of as well. I know you said you want to have everything in one place but have you considered having your ceremony at another location? I have seen photos of weddings on line where the bride has married at Harkness Memorial State Park and then had their reception at The River Room. I know you guests would have to travel a bit but at least it gives them something to do in between and then they could just stop back at their hotel on the way to the venue, instead of leaving the venue and then coming back.

Just a really quick post about Coastal Gourmet…
We had already picked out The Wadsworth Mansion, and coastal was one of the recommended caterers. We had a meeting with them, where he basically told me what would go down during our wedding….before we even told him what we were looking for. He also point blank refused a tasting (even a few apps) without a really high cost. And he shot down our ideas, and our wants. For example we didn’t want passed hors d’oeuvres, and he was basically like, no you have to have them. We were lucky to also be going to the wedding show at the Wadsworth Mansion that they have in February. Coastal Gourmet was there, and had a few things to try. Nothing was all that great.
Soooo… I’d say if your looking for flexible, they might not be your best bet. But, if you want Mystic, you have no choice.

I’m getting married at the aquarium in Mystic and my rehearsal dinner is in the Tap Room at Latitude 41. We had lunch there during our initial walk-through and FH and I were both highly impressed with the food. Jenna Landon is the contact over there for Coastal Gormet and she’s been a breeze to work with. I’ve only met/spoken with her on three occasions, but she seems incredibly accomodating.
The folks that run the aquarium (Ocean Blue Catering & Sea Reseach) are equally amazing. If you want a REALLY unique ceremony over there, contact Kathy Lloyd or Ashley Holt through the main aquarium number. They’re a riot and have been a pleasure to work with 🙂
