Have you considered a winery? Maybe some of the smaller ones allow weddings.  I believe the two big wineries in the SE corner have a steep venue fee.

What about the Pond House in West Hartford? My cousin had her reception there and I didn’t see a minimum number of guests on their site. They have these beautiful huge windows that would add to the airy look that you want and the grounds are gorgeous.

I’m getting married at the Gelston House in East Haddam.. it’s a resturant right on the CT river. They told me the main room is perfect for 70-100 people. They let you decorate however you want, so you can really put whatever style you want into the room. I saw photos of another wedding there that was really modern & it looked great!

I’m getting married at the Gershon Fox Room in Hartford. I love it! The Society Room is right around the corner and is also really nice!

Not sure if you are still looking but I’m having my reception at the Wadsworth Mansion-  they don’t have a min requirement at all and actually works better with a smaller wedding.  I’m also having about 80 people and can have everyone in one room for eating.
