ok this is my first ever thread that i’ve started on this site.. my question is this do any of u have cultural influences that are putting a certain strain on ur ideas? i’m originally from africa and most of the ppl at my church are too..because of this family n friends have a stereotype of the right way to have a wedding and the right type of dress and the right format to do everything.. it is soooooo frustrating that ppl cant think outside the box sometimes..

I think this happens to everyone to a certain extent!
When it comes to weddings people have a MILLION opinions about what you should do!
Stand your ground and be confident in your choices and plan the wedding of your dreams!
If you have specific parts of planning that have gotten negative opinions bring it to the hive and we will support your different ideas!
Another good way of dealing with the naysayers is to not tell them any details about the wedding – that way they won’t judge your ideas until they see everything beautifully come together!

Thanks!! And i agree with not giving away details.. gives them less to talk about!

i was born and raised in asia, therefore, i also have experienced some stereotype that you mentioned above. HOWEVER, family and friends know that i’m super stubborn, meaning that no matter what they say, i won’t comply if i don’t agree with it.
let them know nicely that there are also some RIGHT things you want to do for your wedding and i’m sure they’ll understand. if they don’t, just let them nag 😛
