I used to work in a bakery at a grocery store, and unfortunately, the cupcakes in places like that are usually kind of disgusting with thick, thick frosting. If you go with them, I would make it very clear that you don’t want them to do frosting overload. Price check around with some local bakeries and you may find that they aren’t as pricey as you think.

I suggest taking your mom for a few different cake tastings at a few different bakeries and then have a taste test of the Wal*Mart ones. I am 99.9% possitive you both will be able to tell the difference.

I’ve checked with Walmart, a local grocer, and an actual bakery. The bakery cupcakes were bigger, tasted better, and had much more variety in flavors. The bakery charged $.30 more per cupcake, which was well worth it in the long run. Hope that helped. :]

I have to agree with the others, their buttercreme tastes like crud, and it leaves an aweful film in your mouth.  You would be better off making them yourself.

Other bakeries are always much better tasting AND sometimes cheaper. I would look around at those before going that Walmart route. They are really made for kids parties who just want the sugar and don’t care about the taste.

We did Costco cake (we did sheet cakes, pre-cut and had a cake buffet), and got a small round cake from a baker, to cut, and I’ll tell you what, my mom picked the baker (she shopped around) and that cake was NASTY! It seriously tasted like vinegar. I have no idea what was wrong with the baker.

The costco cake though? Delicious!!! We love their cake, and it’s super affordable. They do cupcakes as well. 🙂

The whole cupcake is bad. The frosting is worst than the cake but the cake part is not great either. Go taste them and see for yourself.

I second going for the costco cupcakes (if you have one in your area)!  They are not as cheap as the Walmart ones, but they are HUGE.  I would recommend buying a box and taking them into work to see what a variety of people think about them!

i wouldn’t go the walmart route either. depending on where you’re from, you might want to look into Publix. I know several people who have gone through them and have been very happy. Personally, i would go through a baker.

Im personally not a big fan of them.  i woudl rather pay more for a cupcake worth eating.  i HATE the american buttercream they use, its so sweet it makes my teeth hurt (and its also how they can be so inexpensive).
