Biased because we did it at my brunch wedding, but doughnuts! We had a big doughnut made to cut which was fun for us to still have that traditional bit without the whole traditional cake at a non-traditional reception.DSC_8068

We had a brunch wedding!  While we had a traditional cake to cut and all, we had doughnuts too!  Every doughnut got eaten and people loved it.  Not as many people wanted the cake.  It definitely gives a brunchy feel.  So I say doughnuts.  You can still break one apart and feed to each other as the cake cutting!

See, brunch and early afternoon mean 2 different things to me. Maybe this is regional, but in my location, brunch happens in the late morning.

Go with Doughnuts (maybe with some fritters or danishes) if you end doing a real brunch reception. I couldn’t see myself eating a cupcake at 10 AM.

Go with cupcakes if you end up doing an early afternoon reception.

cupcakes for sure because it’s the closest to a cake. Cake is something I look forward to when attending weddings. I like all kinds of cakes.
