We are not using plates or napkins. We are going to take our cupcakes around on a tray and have little favor boxes to put them in. Guests can decide if they want to eat it at the reception or take it home. It also gives us some time to get around and see each guest personally.

Will the cupcakes be served at the tables? If so, definitely on a plate!

If it’s a help yourself style buffet, I say put both plates and napkins out, people will use what they’re most comfortable with!

2/3 as many plates, time and a half napkins, I would say, because people love to waste napkins. ๐Ÿ™‚

Are there other desserts or fruit being offered? If so, plate. If not, napkins.

If I were a guest at your wedding, I would prefer a plate and a napkin. Sometimes cupcakes can be messy, and I would hate to get anything on my clothes and/or not be able to wipe my face and hands.

I love the cupcake cakes! Cute! I say both to give your guests an option and it just looks a little nicer. At a wedding or gathering, I would probably use a plate so I don’t get as messy and look like I’m just stuffing my face ๐Ÿ™‚

If I were a guest at your wedding, I’d want a plate and napkin.  It’s hard to contain cupcake crumbs on a napkin alone (especially if you are up walking around instead of sitting at a table) and a napkin and plate allow you to eat more cleanly and clean up any icing that gets on you.

kala_way: I actually found a great deal on boxes on this site  . I ordered the 1 ounce black chinese take out boxes (our colors are black and gold). They also have some regular 4 x 4 x 4 boxes that are great price and would work for cupcakes as well. We are planning on having a cupcake tree to display them on as well as a small cake to cut for the traditional cake cutting. After that we will hand them all out to guests. Hope this helps.http://www.uline.ca/

I agree that I would want a plate and a napkin… and a fork.  Cupcakes aren’t “one bite” finger foods, and a lot of bakery cupcakes are larger and richer than normal cupcakes and are just easier to eat on a plate with a fork!  It lets you eat the cupcake and enjoy it rather than feeling like you have to wolf it down because it’s smooshing apart in your hand as you eat it.

@kala_way: we are using plates and napkins for our cupcakes. I don’t like eating food with my fingers. I eat pizza with a fork. So I will be eating my cupcake with a fork also.. ^_^
