I’ve only seen the tiny ones in person. They reminded me of onyx only shinier.

My understanding is that natural black diamonds are semi transparent and reflect light.  But the stones you see in major stores are enhanced for color and totally opaque.  I dont own any.

mine are reflective, they are tooo small for me to see through them,  the diamonds on my e ring and the diamond row between the black diamonds may make it seem more sparkly

@mariebuttons:  My black diamond:

1. Are they totally opaque? Or can you see through them?

Mine is not opaque, I can see some of the inclusions in the stone, I personally think they’re neat! (see picture to see inclusions, I suggest looking on a computer, and possibly blowing up the photo)

2. Are they shiney at all?

I think it sparkles really pretty! Here’s a video!

3. Do they get dirty/show fingerprints?

YES! It is the one thing that drives most crazy about my stone, but I can deal with it!

4. Are you happy with your stone?

Absolutely. Positively. YES!

5. Is the face of it mirror like?

No.. It doesn’t reflect anything but light 🙂

I have black diamond earrings, and I have noticed they do get dirty alot easier. They do get finger print marks on them if your not careful, but mine do shine like crazy, they are opaque and aren’t mirror faced. They only reflect light. I absolutely love my earrings , but i do have to clean them more oftern then I do my engagement ring. They are a little over a carat each and I can’t stand the finger print marks. If you don’t mind that A black diamond is awesome! and so unique!!!

The ones in the stores are usually artificially irradiated to become black, and they are opaque jet black, like onyx.

Natural black diamonds are more like dark gray and/or very, very included diamonds… they sometimes can look a bit like granite.

Of course, they have the sharp facet junctions and smooth, reflective, and scratchless surface of diamonds, either way.

@mariebuttons:  The black diamonds I have are enhanced, they are jet black totally opaque stones. They do shine, and they are very cool looking, the large one I have does get dirty, but I do not really notice dirt or smudges with my smaller stones. I absolutly love black diamonds! Is there a jewelery store nearby? So you can check them out in person?

This is a bit old but oh well.

I have a black moissanite. The jewelry store I just took it to have sized thought it was a black diamond until I told them it was a moissy.

Mine is opaque. It does pick up lights that are in the room, my floor lamp has coloured light covers and those colours shine off it.

The top is very shiny. It actually showed up like a morrow when I was taking a pic, it was so cool because I could see a calendar hanging on the wall in the pic on the top of the stone.

It does show up finger prints or dirt which is annoying but I just keep it clean and it doesn’t bother me because it is still gorgeous.

MINS absolutely love my ring. I keep staring at it constantly.

If I was going to get a black stone, I’d avoid the cost associated with black diamonds. They look just like onyx and other black stones, so what’s the point?

I have a black diamond engagement ring, and it is absolutely stunning. I’ll see if I can post a good picture of it. I had always wanted a black diamond ring, and my FH knew this as I am not a very traditional girl. I know he did the right thing. My ring is 100% perfect! It is 10K white gold (it’s more durable as I am hard on my hands) and it has a 1ct black diamond center stone, and 24 side stones with filigree detailing in a pave style band. The TCW of the ring is 1.25 carats. My fiance wanted a bigger diamond for me but nothing too crazy. The stone has some size and weight but isn’t overly gaudy or flashy, and the side stones enhance it beautifully. I especially love the filigree because it gives it a vintage look. I’ve had the ring for almost a year and aside from a few scratches on the band (which is obviously something that happens to any ring if you wear it every single day) it still shines beautifully. I will likely be having it re-dipped soon for our wedding! Black diamonds sparkle differently than white diamonds do. My center stone is big enough to somewhat see through it when held up to the light, but otherwise it is opaque. I would say it more twinkles rather than sparkles in the traditional manner…but it is VERY twinkly! Lol. I love my ring. If you’re non traditional like me I recommend one. The diamond itself never scratches, and like someone else mentioned, it does tend to show fingerprints but a simple wipe with a soft cloth takes care of that. I also clean my ring once a week with mild soap and a toothbrush in between professional cleanings. That also really makes a difference! Now I just need to find a band to match it…our wedding is in April so we need to get on that! 😉
