I am not getting married until next July, but I already have the pregnancy bug. Fiance and i have been together for years and lived together for 2 years. He’s turning 30 next month, so we don’t want to wait too much longer after the wedding to start trying. So here’s the question. I have the Mirena IUD (I don’t have kids, but was selected to have this because of issues with BC). If we want to start trying on our honeymoon..when should i have the IUD removed? Has anyone had any experience with this..or any problems. Let me know your thoughts and concerns. I am just curious. Thank you!

I’m not sure but I’d call the doctor! You have to have it removed by your obgyn and it probably causes some spotting and/or bleeding upon removal. Plus doesn’t it take time to get out of your system? You may need to go off it like 3 months before if you plan on actively trying on your honeymoon. If you’re even ovulating at that time. My concern with having it removed RIGHT before the wedding is the suddenly lack of hormones and the lack of adjustment period. And the bleeding =

I think I would wait to mess with my system until after the wedding.

I had the mirena removed on a Wednesday – a Condom broke on a Friday – I was pregnant immediately.
Unfortunately because I am a high risk pregnancy I miscarried, but my doctor was sure it was not a side effect of the mirena as I had miscarriages long before the mirena and my son was 13 weeks premature.
