I have curly hair and it’s pretty long. It’s also thick, dry, and prone to frizz *sigh*
I am hoping for an updo but at the base of my neck…something knotted, curled, or similar. I will have a short veil on for a bit.
I’m just wondering if you curly bees are getting it straightened first to combat frizz?? I wonder how long to estimate my hair appt. They always underestimate the time for me!

I am interested in this too! Not sure what I am doing with my hair yet! Would love to see pics from other curly bees!

I didn’t straighten my hair at all, in fact she told me not to. She did use a curling iron to smooth out the frizz though and also used a lot of hairspray to combat frizz coming back from any humidity or wind. Here are links to all my pictures from the post I did. It has a lot of pictures of front, side, and back of my hair.

I have insanely curly hair & whenever i’ve had updos done (always by dominicans they’re amazing with my hair!!) They do it wet. Basically they gel it & put it in curlers. Sit me under a dryer forever. Then take all the curlers out it looks crazy at first. Then they sweep it all up & keep pinning it. Always comes out amazing & its tight! Not one hair will move!! Wish i had a pic to post.

No. At least for me, if I straighten my hair before doing it, it wont hold curl AT ALL. I’m going to curl my whole head with a spiral curling iron and then style it from there. That way it’s not frizzy, but is curly in a way that I like it.

I have curly hair and my hairdresser straightened then re-curled my hair. I also went three days without washing it before the wedding to help the curl stay put.
The straightening really helped to smooth the frizz and give my hair some shine 🙂

Hi, what did you end up doing for your wedding? I am getting married in March and want to wear my hair up.

elliegraye : Straighten it if it tends to frizz. I straightened my hair before my wedding and I love looking at my wedding pics whereas I usually wince when I see my hair in photos.

I have wavy hair and went to two different hair dressers for a consultation. I wanted to wear my hair down. Hairdresser #1 wanted to straighten my hair and then curl it with a curling iron. I was not the biggest fan of this idea since I did not want the standard curl that comes from a curling iron. The second hairdresser I went to agreed with me and stated that she would just curl my wavy hair with a curling iron to get even curl and to defrizz. I clearly went with hairdresser number 2 and loved my hair. My hair looked my normal hair, just a bit more even curl wise and with a lot less frizz. She used hairspray to also help with frizz and my hair stayed the entire day and night. It even looked great at the group breakfast the following morning.

ok thanks. I am wanting to wear my hair up and am having a hard time find someone that knows how to do uodos for curly hair.

I am not sure why you would straighten it seeing how the hair is always curled before an updo to get the fullness?
Because straightening gives dry frizzy hair a completely different texture.
