No elaboratly choreographed first dances and ditto for bridesmaids and groomsmen dance numbers.  We’ll dance, hopefully not get injured, and have a great time.

Eh I didn’t avoid trends specifically I just picked stuff that I wanted and though was elegant  I didn’t have most of the stuff on the list except purple.  Purple complemented FI’s choice of baby blue for the groomsmen’s vests.  And it turned out to be a pretty color colorful choice.

@MrsNewDay:  I got ours off Craigslist! They’re the real, ultra-heavy glass kind.

If you lived in Boston, I’d say come and take them! We have 5!

@MsGinkgo:  We’re skipping all of them. Traditional all the way.

@Groominator:  I think I’ll ask the ushers to tell people to sit wherever – I am also close with several of the ladies on his side — I think I’ll express my concern and have them spread word …. If I do a program I might include a note of — if you’re reading this and see a better seat on the opposite side & wish to move GO now! but in a nicer way.

we said no to: cutesy signs/poems (but we did have one sign that said “welcome to our wedding,” mostly so our guests would know where to go), strapless dress, mustaches (i still don’t get this. why does everyone want a mustache?).

we said yes to: a photobooth, mason jars, bathroom baskets, and our table numbers were little chalkboards (i was going to do regular paper table numbers, but saw the chalkboards at michael’s and decided to use those instead).

i didn’t use pinterest for my wedding, so if i was following a trend i had no idea i was doing so.

No rustic anything.  No barns, jars, etc.  FI was a farm boy (5th or 6th generation farmer) and don’t want to pretend to live that life now.

  • Candy bars – I get the insulin resistant shakes just thinking about it.  We don’t need cake and candy, this isn’t grade school.
  • Chalk – Again, this isn’t grade school.
  • Photo booths
  • Mustaches – I live in Portland, I see enough mustaches on a daily basis already.
  • Signs
  • Favors
  • Large bridal party
  • After parties
  • Party after the after party.
  • Change of wardrobe.
  • Chair covers
  • Unity candles
  • Balloons

We said yes to:

  • Photobooth and props
  • signature drinks
  • first look
  • non-numbered tables (used broadway playbills instead)
  • couples dance

We said no to:

  • personalized vows
  • candle lighting, wine box, or sand- traditional worked just fine.
  • bouquet throwing/garter throwing
  • “here comes the bride” signs
  • choreographed dances of any kind
  • mermaid style dresses and colorful shoes
  • dogs in the wedding
  • anything DIY- I suck at crafts
  • anything rustic- not my style

That’s exactly what I’m skipping – Current wedding trends. All of ’em. None of them appeal to me at all… there will be nothing Pinteresty about my wedding.

Some brides think that’s impossible, but the fact is, it wasn’t even hard. I just went with what I liked. Fads rarely appeal to me.

@bapbap:  Its so frustrating!  But I know it’ll look pretty so that’s all that really matters to me.  I love pinterest and it really is both a blessing and a curse!

@MrsFutureG:  Oh I know.  But I wore a mermaid, LOL!  I don’t think it’ll be like poofy shoulders…but I guess only time will tell.  😉

None of that Pinterest stuff (burlap, signs, etc). Also, I know theyre fun but photobooths and candy bars have been at every wedding in my town for the past 2 years. So we won’t be doing those.

We had no:

  • Burlap (I always thought that sackcloth represented bereavement/punishment???)
  • Mason jars
  • Sign bearer/Choose a seat/Here comes the bride etc
  • Unity ceremony eg. candle/sand ceremony/wine box/letter etc
  • Chiavari chairs
  • Bathroom baskets (really not necessary for a DW)
  • Chalkboards
  • Jumping pictures
  • Paper lanterns
  • Candy table
  • Petal aisle runner

I did have a lace trumpet/mermaid dress though. It was very flattering to the figure 😛 and I don’t care if it will look dated in a decade or so. I’m not trying to pretend that my wedding didn’t happen in 2013!

We also had an instax guest book. The pictures were great and everyone really enjoyed playing with the cameras.

Well, unfortunately since we both grew up on farms, the lace, burlap and mason jars worked.  SO thats what we went with and it was lovely.

And i did alot of it myself. I guess i’m part of the “trend” group but i saved alot of money.
