So my soon to be fiance and I picked out a gorgeous ring and I always hoped for a 1.5 center diamond and loved cushion cut but I was recently informed tjat cushions appreared smaller and since I have bigger fingers im worried it will look small on my finger.

It’s true. I wanted a cushion, too but learned they are more expensive and appear smaller. I would go for a round cut with a cusion halo. They look beautiful.
Here is one that MeredithG (hope it’s okay I used your picture!) posted some time back on another board that I think is a perfect example. I think it’s beautiful and still looks like a cushion cut. I ended up with a round cut in a round halo. But I’ll admit, my heart skips a beat when I see a ring in a cushion halo.

Go with the round center in a cushion halo! You get the best of both worlds and the two shapes really compliment each other well.
Here’s my 1.44 round in a cushion halo. Just over 2 tcw, size 5 🙂

In what world is a 1.5 too small? Unless you’re the incredible hulk, Andre the giant, or honey boo boo child’s mother it will more than likely look fine! Make sure you look at it before you make a decision and write it off. Most jewelers won’t have a problem with brining in the stone with little to no obligation on you. Keep in mind the halo will also make it look more substantial and you can always have the center stone set up higher.
Cushions are beautiful stones. Don’t give up on it until you’ve had a chance to really look at them!

Yep. Any one with ‘too small’ 1.5 carat cushions can pass them onto me. 😉

Agreed! My center radiant cut diamond is .75 with a cushion cut halo. Finger size 9. No one seems to think this is small.. the last comment I received was “do you need a wheel barrow for that thing?” 🙂 Round center and cushion halo is beautiful. I was totally against a round stone when I was looking. Wish I would have given that combination more thought but I’m still completely in love with my ring.

I COMPLETELEY UNDERTSTAND! I was having the same issues while choosing mine. unless your heart is set on a cushion, maybe try a pear or marquise? i was originally set on a marqise but fell in love with a pear. i wear a 7.5 and I really felt like the shape elongated my stubby fingers. i wound up with a 2ct but these stones tend to look even bigger than they are (I remember looking at a 1.2 marquise next to a 2.0 ct round, cushion and emerald and couldnt believe how much bigger it looked just because it was longer). here’s a pic of mine to give you an idea. best of luck!!!

I love your ring. My one regret is not getting a cushion halo. It will for sure need to be my RHR one day!
