Hi sweet bees!
My ring is a 2.2 carat cushion.
Everyone seems suprised that it is a 2.2. I have hear for and againsts that a cushion looks smaller. Would you think this is 2.2 if I did not tell you? I would think more like 1.5.
My finger is 5.5

I think that it looks like a 2.2.

That looks like a big ole rock to me 🙂 I am horrible at guessing sizes, but I would have prob said 1.8-2 if I didn’t know.

Cushion cut diamonds face up smaller than round diamonds, which is why cushion cut diamonds look smaller. Your ring is still gorgeous, though and cushion cut diamonds are among my most favorite.

And as weird as this might be, I am kind of glad it looks smaller 🙂 Just seems nice to me. I LOVE IT TO DEATH and also that it looks like a 1.5. I think that the universe lined up PERFECTLY with this ring!

@Jane8530: all that matters is what you think and you Fiance or DH thinks…I totally believe in the “universe’ as well lol

A 2.2 cushion probably faces up like a 1.5-1.8 round which is what people normally think of for diamonds.

I definitely think it’s true what people say about cushions facing up smaller than round cuts. I don’t have any real pics of my ring, but took a pic on my computer to show you. It’s 1.7 on a 5.5 sized finger, but I think it’s more comparable to a 1.3-1.5 round cut.

I voted yes, but I think you should post some more pics of the ring. It is kind of hard to tell in the pic that you posted. I think it is a gorgeous ring regardless!

SO, it basically varies on the cut of the cushion. An ideal shaped cushion cut will appear smaller than a round diamond…however, there are certain designers that cut to maximize the face of the stone (ie: henri daussi)…here is one that my SO’s brother bought his fiance (now ex-fi), can you guess the weight of the center stone (the ring was a size 5.5 (with sizing beads inside the band), but is pictured on my 4.5 finger from when I was trying to sell it)?
EDIT: you must look @ the video I took…it gives you a MUCH better idea of proportion:
ETA: the weight of the center stone is .93 carats!

@GelaMac: I agree totally!!! Things just seems to “line up” PERFECTLY with him and I all the time!!!

The cut, specifically the table size, is what determines the size of a diamond- not necessarily the carat size or whether it is cut as a round or cushion- rahter how it was cut. Example: I had a diamond that was over a carat but was only 5 mm across. The cut makes a difference- as in- how it was cut.
