I love your ring!  I would guess 2 carats + from the pic.

I have a cushion (which i LOVE)- I also have a halo and people always think mine is bigger than it is. Maybe because of the halo?

.91 in the center. My ring size is around a 4.

I think it’s an impressively large size and it suits the width of the band and your finger PERFECTLY. It looks smaller than its actual carat weight, but to my eye, most cushion cuts do.

In any case, your ring is gorgeous!

It could be that your man decided to go with higher clarity and color rather than a higher quality cut. A poorly cut diamond can often appear much smaller than an ideal cut diamond. Your ring looks gorgeous but i agree with you i would have not said 2 carats.

I’m a 5.5 ring size as well and I think it does look like a 1.5 on you but I think it’s a good thing since you have such small fingers.  It looks perfect on you!  I’m a princess cut type of girl but this post is letting me see the beauty of a cushion.

I agree with what PP’s have said, it all depends on the cut…  My cushion is .74 carats (in a halo, so this might not count) but the way it’s cut makes it look equal or even bigger than a round of equal or lesser cut quality…

OP, what is the length and width of the diamond in mm?  That’s going to determine how big it looks.  My diamond is slightly over 2 carats and it’s 7.24mm X 7.44mm.  I do have smaller fingers than you though (size 4):

I think depth and surface width make a big difference. Some people have rings that look much smaller than they are because they are deeper, and some rings look much larged because they are wider…

I think it faces up a little smaller, but so does mine (emerald cut) and that doesn’t matter to me. Your ring is beautiful, btw! I love cushion cuts.

Yes, they usually face up smaller.  I have a cushion that is 1.8ct, and measures 7mm in each direction (like 7.1 or something).  For comparison, round stones closer to 1.25 usually measure around 7mm across.  As others have said, it’s due to the cut and more weight being “underneath”, so to speak.

Cushions are so beautiful!  Kiss  Though I’m biased..

I don’t even try and guess the weights of cushions, as they can vary so much depending on cut. Rounds, assuming they are cut close to ideal proportions, are a bit easier, but outside of that, or throw in antique cuts, and it is all over the place too!

Finger size makes a HUGE difference too.  A 7x7mm stone on a 3.5 finger will look “bigger” than it does on a 8 finger. Unless I know your exact finger size (which is also not that easy to tell at a glance) I am even more at a loss!
