What jeweler is this that cuts 15% for every birthday and you get to add discounts together for both your birthdays?!? We clearly need to be buying our bands from them LMAO!

I would

#1 – Talk to your fiance about the budget. Tell him you need a solid number of what he wants to spend.

#2 – See if there are things you can do to bring down the price of your custom ring. You can get away with lower-quality diamonds the smaller they are, so see if that makes a price difference on the small diamonds lining the setting. If you have old jewelry from ex-boyfriends you don’t wear any more, perhaps sell it for scrap gold and use the money towards your new ring. Or go with a jeweler that has a price-match guarentee, EternityDiamonds will beat any price you are quoted elsewhere.

#3 – I think the idea of adding 1 ring now and 1 later is a great idea! Talk to your fiance about why he doesn’t want to do this, maybe he thinks he’s letting you down by not getting both at the same time.

He should have given you a budget.. That being said if its not going to put you guys in a financial hardship I would say go ahead with it. Its your dream ring and settling wont make you feel any better. You are the one that has to wear this ring for ever.. so I say go for it.
