Has anybody here ever purchased a custom wedding gown from Etsy before? I found the seamstress and gown of my dreams, but my mother is horrified by the idea (insisting instead I pick something off the rack). What have your experiences been like?

Try on styles in a bridal shop first! Get an idea of what you like. Then pursue your dream dress online. You make think you like something, buy it and put it on, and realize it’s not at all what you thought.
I see nothing wrong with buying online, but make sure you’ve tried on a similar style!

Oh me, me! I did it! I was very nervous ordering from Etsy so I actually messaged about 15 shops to see what their communication style was and to see if they could make my custom gown. I went with the shop that reassured me i would be getting the dress of my dreams. I also looked at almost all of their listings to check out their craftsmanship. Only so much you can do through photos though.. Although I did eliminate some based on them. I received my dress is less than a month and am in LOVE with it! It’s not 100% the pictures I sent them but I expected that. The fit is 95% So very minor alterations.
Like PP said, try on different silhouettes if you haven’t already. It’ll help you feel more confident in ordering! Best of luck!
