Did any of you have your dress custom made? If so how was the process? Did you love the dress after? Did the seamstress come close to your vision? Why did you choose to go custom? PICS?

I’m having my dress custom made and so far I’m happy but she is just starting…will have to wait before I know more.
I would check out specialsundae’s post on her dress. She posted the entire process as it was going on and has also posted wedding pictures.

I didn’t have my dress custom made, but I had it customized. It was a lot cheaper to start with a pre-made dress than to start from scratch. My dress looked like this to begin with:
I hated the “basket weave” on the bodice so much that I took a seam ripper and some scissors to it and hacked it to peices. I cut off the strap and sewed hook and eyes on it to make it removeable. So I had a shredded, strapless dress. I took it to the tailor and asked him to:
Put the bodice back together so that it was ruched instead of woven
Create a lace ‘off shoulder’ bolero
Here is the ceremony look with the bolero
and here is the reception look with the strap
All in all, it cost me under $1,500 for the dress ($750), the bolero ($350), and the alterations ($400). If I had tried to get a dress from scratch made like this, it would have been over $3K.

@howtobeawife: Thank you!
@amazingbee: You should PM SpecialSundae. She had a REALLY elaborate custom made dress for her wedding.

i am considering getting my second dress (long story…read my threads I started) custome made). Possibly to look somewhat like a designer dress that is $7000…cistome made will get me a similar look cheaper with some different changeable aspects.

@Tangled: Oh my goodness, so gorgeous and love the nude pink color of the dress.
I think this dress would be gorgeous in white too!
