I’m having a custom made dress for my wedding. My situation is a little bit complicated because although my designer has an shop here, the dress is being made in the Philippines, where our wedding will be. Since our wedding will be there anwyay, I opted to have my final fitting when I arrive, which is 2 weeks before the wedding instead of having to either fly there at an earlier date or have the dress shipped here and then shipped back again. At that time, I figured that’s enough time to fix whatever needed fixing.
I made the mistake of reading through dress related mishaps where the dress ended up as a disaster and the bride needed to find a last minute replacement, etc., etc. And now I’m a little bit worried.
I’ve only had one fitting so far and it went smoothly but it wasn’t the finished dress yet. It didn’t have the straps, beading, lace, and all the intricate details. It did have the linings, boning, and padding though. It also wasn’t the right length which I was told, was intentional because they needed me to be in my wedding shoes, which I didn’t have yet at that time. This designer though is a reputable one and I also haven’t gained or lost weight. so that’s a plus.
Anyone else having a custom made dress? How much buffer before the wedding did you have for fixes and tweaks?
