I was flipping through a bridal magaine today and came across I dress that just stopped my whole world. Of course, upon research it’s like a $3200 dress. My mother is buying my dress and she’d basically tell me to go fly a kite if I wanted it. I really cannot justify kicking in the extra money out my my own money/our wedding fund — not only would my Fiance killlllll me, but, really, that money could be airfare to Fiji or Tahiti.
Anyway. I couldn’t care less about the designer label, I just love the look of the dress. I could probably search for it used in a few months (it’s Spring 2013 collection), but I may also investigate having one custom made. Can anyone steer me in the direction of how to do this without hitting up the dress shops in China? Any recommendations in the US? Etsy sellers? Anyone you’ve used? HELP!!

@MsAmandaAnn: A lot of brides on here have had great experiences with Dressilyme and Jasmine’s Bridal. I would definitely check those out for a knock-off or a copy. I think people may have had a slightly better experience with Jasmine’s. 🙂

Most gowns, even designer gowns, are made in China. Jasmines or Dressilyme come highly recommended.

Thanks ladies.. I’ll try those. I’m just so nervous to order a custom made dress, having it comes from so far away (china) is daunting! I guess it’s really no different than if it were to come from a different state..

Check out the cheaper designers and see if they make a cheaper version! Allure and Maggie Sottero both have TONS of gowns!

@MsAmandaAnn: Jasmine’s Bridal out of all the overseas vendors probably produce the best work. I got my dress from them. Just search the forums, alot of bee’s are JB Brides and there are several threads about them. They also have a facebook page with more examples of their work. Keep in mind that they are really popular now, so they are being selective about which jobs they take on (which speaks alot about the quality of their work, they would rather turn down your money to produce a better quality dress for a prior existing customer than to hastily design a crap dress). Plus the customer service agents are fluent in english, which is a major help. This was my dress!

FWIW, this is the gown I’m in love with (this week, anyway!). It’s a Hayley Paige. I really think the simplicity of the dress and the striping is what does it for me. So, if anyone knows off the top of their head a less expensive designer with something similar — I’m open to suggestions. Otherwise, I guess I will research Jasmine’s.

@MsAmandaAnn: That dress is beautiful!! I would never consider ordering a chinese knockoff dress. If you love the dress enough, its worth the money, if not, look for other dresses in your price range.

@AmyFarrahFowler: We’re trying really hard to keep our wedding below $20k — that’s about the amount we’re comfortable with saving and paying for everything in cash. We’re pretty dead set against charging up expenses we can’t afford and starting our marriage off in debt. My mother is willing to spend about half of the cost of this dress and I honestly feel guilty even taking THAT much from her! :-/ I could probably swing the rest out of my own pocket, but, ugh, I just really cannot justify a $3200+ dress for one night. I hate that my Fiance wants to spend $8/chair on Chiavari chairs.. haha..
But, that being said, I’ve hated just about everything I’ve tried on so far, exceptions of like two dresses which I “liked”. So, I would probably hate this dress. I should probably track this dress down first and even see if I like it. But it just fits so well with our wedding..

The only advice I can give you is contact Sondra Celli who is in Waltham, MA. She is such an awesome dress maker. She will sit down with you and create whatever you want but I am not sure what the cost would be for your dress but you can contact her and see what says.
I am having her make my wedding gown because I was having difficulties finding what I wanted so we agreed she will do it. I wear a size 18 street size and I didnt want the wedding gowns that I seen. They made me depressed I didnt feel they were made for me. I want a blush dress and designers who were making plus size wedding dresses forgot that we all dont want white or ivory nor do we want to look like everybody else.
I hope this helps best of luck.
