Yay, my save the dates just came today!
So, when I was looking for save the dates, a lot of the options seemed kind of too “templatey” to me, like things I’ve already seen so many times, or kind of cheesy. Not that I’m the most unique person ever, but I kind of gravitate towrds things that are a little “artsy” (I probably chose too “left-brained” of a career!).
Well, we were lucky enough to choose a fantastic photographer, and our engagement pictures are great. Rather than picking a pre-made save the date, I designed save the date postcards myself. The front is a favorite picture from our engagement session with our wedding date superimposed in an cool font across the bottom, and the back says “Save the Date” along with “Mxxx & Axxx are tying the knot!” (picture of a line drawing of a nautical knot) (date) (location) “Inviatation to follow”. The other 1/2 of the back will have a 2.5 x 1.5 inch zazzle stamp with a different picture of us from our engagement session, our return address under that, and a place to put an adress label for the recipient that will be printed in the same font as everything else (yeah, not caligraphy, but that’s just not in my budget!)
Anyway, I went to nextdayflyers.com, and uploaded the files for the front and back of my save the date. For around $30 (inclusive of shipping), I had 100 postcards made. They just came today, and I could not be more thrilled! They more than what I imagined, the cardstock is very thick, and I love the matte finnish i selected for the front (compliments the overall feel of the postcard).
If I had not opted for the zazzle stamps, which are nearly $1 per $0.33 stamp, my save the dates would’ve been 30 cents each! And very wonderful quality and a little more unique than I would have ended up with from an online template.
Just wanted to post this in case anyone is looking for economical but awesome save the dates. If you’re willing to devote an hour or two to designing the files (I just used “pages” on my mac to design mine), you can save a boatload of money, and end up with a really great result!
Hope this helps someone 🙂 Next day flyers was great, and though I was a little concerned about what the result would be (I figured if I lost $30 it wouldn’t be the end of the world…), my expectations were exceeded and I would totally recommend them to anyone!
