FI’s a bigger guy so rented suits/tuxes look like crap on him. We had planned on just renting a tux and hoping for the best but lately I’ve been thinking about buying a suit and getting it tailored specifically for him.
This is just as much his day as it is mine and I want him to look and feel great about himself. Sure, renting a tux would have been the more economical way to go since his would have been free but I would rather spend a couple hundred and have him be happy with the way he looks.
We’re going to be meeting with Mens Warehouse sometime next week to discuss rentals for the other guys. I was checking out their website and noticed that they offer a free suit (up to $400 value) or tux rental with the paid rental of 5 other tuxes (we have 8 guys total so that’s not a problem). Part of me feels like this is too good to be true. Does anyone have experience with the “free suit” from MW?
Also, if you ended up purchasing the grooms suit and getting it tailored, how much did it set you back? Obviously if we can get it free through MW that’s what we’re going to do but if we end up having to buy it, I would prefer the whole thing (purchase and tailoring) come in under $300-$400. We’re not looking for anything designer, just a run of the mill chocolate brown suit.

FH is using the 400 (note: you can’t use that discount until 2 weeks before the wedding) for a new tux (he’s also on the larger side but we have chosen a style that’s more tailored to give him less of a boxy look). All told it will probably cost 400-500 depending on what size he is when the wedding rolls around but that’s for a tux not a suit. I would expect you would be within your range for a suit with alterations.
FH has boughten all of his suits from MW and loves them (a grey, black, navy and I think brown) usually doesn’t run him more than 400 depending on when you buy it and the brand.

If I may, I know nothing about MW or the deal but I think getting him a suit is a fantastic idea. It’s always good for a man to have.

Most tux rental places I know give a free suit/ free tux rental to the groom if you have atleast 5 tuxes. We are going with Mens wearhouse too and they explained to us that Fiance would be getting a free tux rental or free suit [$400 value max] to keep since we have 5 groomsmen plus my dad will be renting a tux too

@Knubbsy-Wubbsy: 2 weeks?! I don’t know if I like that. How do they expect the suit to be tailored and ready for the wedding in 2 weeks?
@SoontobeMrsA: He has a few suits but of course, nothing in brown. There’s always so much emphasis on the brides dress. Why shouldn’t the groom’s suit/tux get the same attention?

@UpstateCait: They can do express tailoring in-house. We’ve had a 3 day turn around on getting the in-seam and rear let out before when needed (interview). I think it also allows you to order 2 weeks before than that to allow for alterations.

@UpstateCait: My Hubby got a free tux and a free tux rental from MW. IDK if it was because there were so many rentals on our account, or if the deal was different when we signed up.

We opted for the free $400 towards a suit, but it couldn’t be used for the wedding. He had a 2 week window AFTER the wedding to go in and get it. Maybe it depends on the MW you go to. I think we had to pay for the alterations too but that may be that he picked a $400 suit and it maxed out the coupon.

From all I’ve heard it is pretty legit.

Last weekend, the MW girl explained that the $400 credit towards a free suit is good for 2 weeks BEFORE the wedding and 2 months AFTER. However, she did say that as soon as ALL of the rented tuxes are paid for and the men are measured that Fiance could go into MW to pick out his “free suit” OR have one shipped from another store. They would hold the suit he picked out until 2 weeks before the wedding…. which is when he was able to pick it UP to take home.

Just be careful… we had our hearts set on a Tommy suit and unfortunetly MW will NOT rent suits! You must purchase them. The sale they have going on right now is great though. (It will be about $200 a suit) Since its a little pricey, we decided to purchase the shirts and ties for the groomsmen so they dont have that extra buy. My fiance is getting a suit as well and since there is 6 of them it works out great. Buy 1 get 1, so they are splitting th costs! Good luck!
